We are looking for Mentors to support our interns on the award-winning Supported Self-Employment Internship and Steps Into Self-Employment programme within the SAMEE charity.
Ideally, the successful candidate will have experience of working within education and would be willing to undertake continuing professional development to obtain any necessary qualifications for the role.
The successful candidate will be line-managed by the Executive Officer and will work alongside the Young People Lead, Careers Co-Ordinator and wider SAMEE mentor team.

Hours per week: 10 hours per week. This would be 5 hours per day for 2 days.
Preferred working days and times: 9.30 - 2.30 Monday and Tuesday
Contract Type: This is a freelance position and will be on a self-employed basis.
Contract Value: £160 per week, payable weekly on a Friday on receipt of invoice.

Responsibilities:
* Support an Intern on a one-to-one basis with work-based opportunities and all aspects of the Level 1 Steps into Self-Employment qualification.
* Deliver on the outcomes from the individual education plan, education health care plan (EHCP) and vocational profile goals.
* Regularly review and evaluate the individual education plans with the Executive Officer and Young People Lead to ensure that they are meeting the needs of the Intern.
* Attend monthly reviews with the Intern, Qualification Administrator and the Young Person Lead to evaluate the work completed and what needs to be achieved.
* Manage the evidence collection, witness testimonies and other relevant paperwork for the Intern.
* Work with the Careers Co-Ordinator on establishing and developing holistic, work and skills-based objectives for work opportunities.
* Attend work-based opportunities with the Intern to support and offer guidance as necessary.
* Attend Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) Reviews to provide information about qualification-based achievements and opportunities.
* Ensure that any qualification-related and work-based EHCP outcomes are achieved and recorded.
* Maintain accurate records.
* Liaise with SAMEE team members as required.
* Attend meetings and other events as required.

Person Specification:
* Experience of administration and education health care plans.
* Experience of mentoring and developing skills in others including disabled, neurodivergent and vulnerable people.
* Understanding of safeguarding procedures, health and safety policies and other practices in the workplace.
* Understanding the daily challenges faced by disabled and neurodivergent young people.
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
* Ability to competently use Microsoft Office packages including Word, Excel and Teams.
* Proven ability to convey complex information in an accessible and inclusive manner to a variety of audiences and educational levels.
* Maintaining confidentiality when handling personal data.
* A pro-active approach, self-motivated and enthusiastic with very high levels of initiative, innovative and imaginative thinking to inspire others.
* A passion for the youth sector and making a change for disabled and neurodivergent young people.
* A ‘can do’ flexible approach with the ability to adapt to changing priorities as necessary.
