Job Purpose: Electric Motor Fitter

The job holder for this post has a wider skill range covering experience as an electric motor fitter. The business thus ensures that such skills and experience enhance the service provision.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required: Electric Motor Fitter
The Electric Motor Winder/Fitter should have experience in working with a range of equipment including electric motors, gearboxes, pumps, and fan units.
Key Accountabilities: Electric Motor Fitter
1. Dismantle a wide range of motors, e.g. AC, DC, brake motors.
2. Have additional knowledge and experience of gearboxes, pumps, fan units, generators, and other assemblies that include electric motors/windings.
3. Testing skills - both static and dynamic testing; to include surge testing, core loss testing, pump tests, dynamic no load testing, etc.
4. Complete the relevant documentation and report on faults (some may include environmental discharge), including test results at all stages of repair.
5. Inspect and test motor subassemblies, e.g. brakes, switches, force ventilation units.
6. Assemble motors and other rotating equipment for repair.
7. Test units following repair and assembly.
8. Clean and prepare commutators for winding, including post winding processes such as undercutting.
9. Participate in the call-out system.
10. Assist in attending site with the various site-based activities carried out by the department.

Essential - Electric Motor Fitter
1. Engineering qualification related to the repair of electric motors (City & Guilds level 3 or equivalent).
2. Previous workshop experience in a related role.
Desirable
1. Full clean Driving Licence.
2. Experience at site-related activities.
Key Working Relationships:
Reports to Works Manager for instructions on jobs required and works with other experienced staff when on site.
Additional Information:
1. Carry a phone when on call and be contacted at all times.
2. Perform labouring duties when not busy.
3. Accompany members of engineering staff during out-of-hours working.
4. On-site work with associated equipment and difficulties in an unsupervised environment.
5. Lift weight of up to 25kg from floor to bench level.
6. Manoeuvre equipment weighing greater than 25kg with appropriate lifting equipment.
