In house Counsel - Head of Legal - Corporate Commercial Lawyer -10 + pqe - London - Hybrid
Our client is a prominent corporate events focused business with an impressive property portfolio including world class London venues and property interests.
The Group now seeks a seniorcorporate commercialcounsel as Head of Legal to lead a small team overseeing all aspects of legal risk management, compliance, and corporate structuring across the Group.
Reporting directly to the CFO and SLT, you will be the primary Senior Legal Officer providing expert counsel to the executive and leadership teams on all legal and corporate affairs whilst also being a hands-on team leader and the contact for key stakeholders.
You will be confident to support the internal teams and be responsible for projects that require more than pure legal skills. As a hands-on leader you will have proven abilities to manage risk, strategy and business wide impacts whilst being active in legal tasks such as drafting, reviewing of legal issues and providing advice in real time.
Skills and Experience
You will have
1. At least 10 years post-qualification experience (in house and private practice) in corporate commercial law, with a strong focus on real estate, transactions, joint ventures, and acquisitions;
2. A proven track record of negotiating complex contracts and advising on commercial decisions with significant business impact across multiple areas including data privacy, IP, and regulatory compliance;
3. A strong understanding of risk management, compliance, and governance;
4. Experience in leading legal teams and managing external legal service providers and other key stakeholders;
5. Hands-on approach to legal work and comfortable working across multiple areas of law, including data privacy, IP, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial, real estate, and funding agreements, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and protecting the company’s interests.
2. Corporate Structuring & Transactions: Lead corporate structuring exercises, manage joint ventures, acquisitions, debt financing due diligence processes.
3. Legal Risk Management: Manage legal risks including IP issues, GDPR compliance, insurance and disputes.
4. Governance & Compliance: Ensure internal compliance across the group, reporting to the SLT.
5. Team Leadership: Manage and support a small legal team, promoting a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
6. Stakeholder Management: Key contact to external stakeholders, including law firms, planning and insurance specialists.
