Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Ward 1 at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital. We are looking for an experienced Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our team. Ward 1 is a 34 bedded Acute and Short Stay Medical Ward, which is a dynamic and busy ward but very rewarding and every day you will be exposed to a huge range of patients with different backgrounds and illness presentations. You will be surrounded by a friendly and supportive team with an environment that encourages personal development, innovation and is dedicated to delivering compassionate person-centred care. This is a great opportunity to expand your knowledge and skills by working closely with the MDT. We have a fantastic support system for new team members and full training will be given. For newly qualified applicants we provide an excellent preceptorship programme where you will be allocated a personal mentor who will support you through your supernumerary time on the ward. We are looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated band 5 staff nurses, who possess excellent communication skills and have a high sense of professionalism and a strong belief in the value of teamwork. Main duties of the job The post holder will practice autonomously and be responsible and accountable for safe, compassionate person-centred evidence-based nursing that respects and maintains dignity and human rights. The post holder is responsible for assessment of care needs of patients and planning programmes of care, implementation, and the evaluation of these programmes without direct supervision. At times they will have management responsibility for being in charge of the ward/department and supervising junior members of staff. The post holder will practice in a holistic, non-judgmental, caring, and compassionate manner that avoids assumptions, supports social inclusion and recognises and respects individual choice and acknowledges diversity. They will work in partnership with other health and social care professionals, students, trainees, and agencies, service users, their careers and families. The post holder will contribute to the practice development within their clinical care setting and work in accordance with Trust Policies, Procedures and Guidelines and will be responsible for completing any work-based training associated with the role.
