This role is part-time for 18.5 hours per week.
‘Foster with Slough’ is the fostering service, graded ‘Good’ (OfSTED, 2021), linked to Slough Children First. We are a rapidly growing energetic and innovative team, working alongside professional foster carers, to support them to be at the top of their game, so that they can care for some of Slough’s most deserving children and young people and ensure that they are happy, loved, safe; thriving!
Are you the dynamic individual that we need to take the service to the next level? If you’re looking for an exciting and rewarding diverse role, where your skills are embraced, and you’ll have a wealth of opportunity to progress your career development and utilise your knowledge and skills supporting our children, foster carers and staff through intervention and consultation.
Whilst the opportunity for therapeutic support is variable in the service, the focus for this position is therapeutic support for Resilience Foster Carers, which is the most recent initiative for Foster with Slough, working with foster families to support children and young people with more complex needs arising from trauma.
Resilience foster carers support children who currently live in residential care to move into their family home and care for them long-term. The role of a resilience foster carer is to build on the resilience of a young person by offering them a secure base where they can build secure attachments and begin to thrive.
Children who are moving out of residential care may have a range of difficulties and you will need to provide them with lots of support, only one fostered child or young person will live with a family at any one time.
This is a role for a confident, outgoing individual who understands the rewards and challenges of fostering and the needs of ‘Cared for’ children. We are looking for someone creative who can think outside the box and work on their own initiative, someone relational and empathetic, and a good team player.
