We are currently seeking to appoint a Practice Development Nurse to work at our Cygnet Hospital Beckton site. You will be an experienced RMN/RNLD with advanced clinical skills and a strong ability to develop the skills and experience of our team at Beckton. The post holder will be integral to the Hospital Management team with a focus on supporting nurses and support workers to achieve and demonstrate the level of competency required in the implementation of nursing practice and procedures for their respective roles. Particular attention would be given to new starters and newly registered nursing staff to ensure quality improvement is continuous. The post holder will ensure that where gaps in practice are identified, individual staff are provided with a period of ward-based/in-house coaching and support to develop practical skills. This is a full-time position working 37.5 hours per week (Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm), with occasional out-of-hours work required to support practice.
Main duties of the job
Cygnet Hospital Beckton is rated Good by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) with inspectors praising staff for their safe, person-centred care. The hospital is a gender-specific facility for women with complex mental health needs, situated in the East End of London, and has four different specialist wards including PICU, acute admissions, and personality disorder services.
Job responsibilities
As a Practice Development Nurse, you will:
* Assist the hospital through clinical practice development and quality improvement.
* Have a lead responsibility in undertaking regular audits of care through monitoring and analysis of documentation, assessment, and observation of the lived experience of patients.
* Work in partnership with the Clinical Manager to deliver targeted intervention where themes, trends, and lessons learnt indicate a need for skills development.
* Work within services focusing on the development of nursing practice, through clinical leadership, coaching, and mentoring.
* Ensure that quality improvement is embedded in practice through focused training and audit against required standards.
* Champion the nursing profession through exceptional role modelling of the NMC code of conduct, the NHS England initiative The 6Cs, and the nursing vision and strategy Compassion in Practice.
* Be involved in hospital-wide CQUIN implementation working groups and projects including data collection where appropriate.
* Lead and facilitate relevant training programmes.
* Work on the ward with nurses where necessary to ensure learning is evident in practice.
* Work on the ward with nurses to better understand the causes of issues affecting practice and use that information to develop and support improved working practices.
* Undertake patient safety investigations when required, including the development of a comprehensive report and action plan.
