C J Lang & Son Ltd is the wholesaler for SPAR Scotland, the largest symbol group in Scotland. We are a family-owned Retail and Distribution business with our Head Office based in Dundee. We are proud to serve local communities through our Company Owned and Independent SPAR Stores throughout Scotland and have a distribution network covering countryside to coast, backed by outstanding operational organization.
Reporting to the Regional Sales Manager, the Business Development Manager will grow the sales and profitability of the independent retail estate within SPAR Scotland. This involves recruitment of new stores, development of the existing store base and retention of the current SPAR business within a designated area of central belt and Ayrshire.
About the Role…
1. Present commercial evaluations to your Regional Sales Manager, outlining potential account sales, margin and profitability, prior to business case approval.
2. Liaise with finance to ensure joining paperwork is completed and retailer is creditworthy.
3. Prepare Geoblink, store drawings and costings to evaluate any new retailer and identify any investment from CJ Lang.
4. Working with marketing teams ensure all aspects of social media are utilised to drive recruitment messages via social channels.
5. Ensure all calls and audits on territory are conducted either 3 weekly, 6 weekly or quarterly timescales in line with business priorities.
6. Grow the numbers of retailers on trading contracts to secure additional business over a 5-year term.
7. Carry out regular Joint Business Plans with retailers to ensure we continue to capitalise on business growth opportunities.
8. Identify store development opportunities and subsequently manage through in conjunction with support team.
9. Be the first point of call, post helpdesk, for retailer’s escalation and own the issue through to solution.
10. Timebound audits to be carried out with retailers to focus on standards and legal compliance.
11. Working with recruitment team to support with growing the number of stores in the independent estate.
12. Working with the onboarding Manager to ensure new stores are supported with all aspects of changing or starting with supply from CJ Lang.
About you…
1. Strong understanding of Symbol Group industry, competitor activity and market trends.
2. Ability to spot opportunities for growth and development.
3. Sales with the ability to convert leads into customers.
4. Ability to build exceptional relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
5. A detailed eye for retailing standards and the ability to influence member compliance.
6. Knowledge of EPOS, including interrogation of data and ability to support the retailers use.
7. Knowledge of PC applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
8. Full Driving Licence.
