Job Title: General Manager - Freight & Logistics

Salary: £67,000pa + Bonus + Benefits

A leading logistics and freight forwarding business is seeking an experienced General Manager to oversee a key multi-user site based in Stoke-on-Trent. This opportunity is ideal for a proven leader with a background in warehouse management, transport, and cross-dock operations, looking to make a significant impact within a dynamic and evolving business.
General Manager Role & Responsibilities:
As General Manager, you will be responsible for the overall strategic and operational performance of the site, including warehouse and transport functions. You will lead a high-performing team and drive operational excellence across all departments to meet business objectives and deliver superior service to clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the delivery of the site's annual operating plan in line with company-wide objectives.
Oversee daily warehouse and transport operations, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and service excellence.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement, driving innovation in processes, systems, and team development.
Maintain financial control and accountability for site performance.
Support the commercial team with tenders, costing, and new business opportunities.
Work closely with central teams including Finance, HR, Sales, and European Operations to meet KPIs and SLAs.
Ensure safe and legal movement of hazardous and non-hazardous goods.
Collaborate with the Head of UK Transport on fleet management and operational planning.
Monitor transport performance and drive efficiencies in service delivery.Essential Experience:
Significant leadership experience in logistics, distribution, or freight forwarding.
Proven ability to manage a closed-book, multi-user site.
Strong knowledge of warehouse operations, transport compliance, and fulfilment processes.
Familiarity with modern WMS systems and transport planning tools.Key Skills & Attributes:
Commercial acumen and full P&L responsibility experience.
Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
Skilled in developing, motivating, and leading teams.
