Financial and Tax Accountant
Hybrid (Home/Office)
Permanent contract
Full time 37.5 hours per week
£53-55k per annum
As Financial and Tax Accountant you will lead and manage YHA's statutory reporting, taxation and auditing compliance, driving changes to our financial systems, delivering efficiencies by identifying improved processes, monitoring and maintaining robust internal controls whilst delivering related compliance requirements.
You will oversee the YHA's financial services team, ensuring processes and controls are in place to meet statutory reporting and audit requirements for purchase and sales ledgers, cash management and month end accounting routines.
What will you be doing as a Financial and Tax Accountant?
You will be:
1. Leading and managing statutory reporting, compliance processes, and year-end audit processes
2. Taking the lead on cash management reporting, forecasts and investment of funds
3. Responsible for YHA's tax affairs (VAT, gift aid and corporation tax) ensuring submission of all returns and compliance with legislation and good practice.
4. Overseeing the financial services team;
o Ensuring income is appropriately recorded and accounted for in monthly management accounts including full reconciliation
o Ensuring all YHA payments are controlled, recorded and paid in a timely manner.
o Overseeing the day-to-day treasury/cash management activities
o Leading and managing the team period end accounting tasks and reconciliations.
5. Managing YHA's insurance programme and ensuring professional advisor contracts are in place, undertaking procurement processes as needed to ensure compliance with good practice and governance.
6. Taking the lead on finance system (Sage X3) improvements and processes.
7. Develop appropriate financial policies and procedures
What Skills and Experience do you need to be a Financial and Tax Accountant
We are looking for candidates with the following qualities:
1. Fully qualified accountant with experience of working at a senior level
2. An up-to-date knowledge of relevant financial legislation, accounting conventions and best practice, including knowledge of charity accounting (desirable)
3. In-depth knowledge of financial systems with experience of introducing new systems and processes.
4. In-depth knowledge of business and charity taxation, particularly VAT including partial exemption methodologies.
5. Proven experience of producing Annual Reports/Financial Statements and leading an annual audit process.
6. Leads by example, with experience of leading and inspiring effective teams and a commitment to upholding professional standards.
7. Ability to establish and maintain senior level relationships and to influence at all levels.
8. Confident and effective communicator and facilitator, with the ability to engage different audiences and build collaborative relationships with others.
9. Results focused with a tenacious approach to delivery and quality of output whilst displaying integrity in own behaviour and dealings with others.
10. Ability to work flexibly, including regional travel with occasional evening and overnight stays to meet the needs of the business.
