Reactor Plant Performance Engineers - Submarines

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Reactor Plant Performance Engineers to join our Submarines business in Derby.
In this role, you will be analysing reactor performance for existing and new designs under normal, abnormal and accident scenarios and developing a broad understanding of reactor plant operation and protection systems. This is an outstanding opportunity to work at the forefront of reactor plant performance analysis.
Due to the sensitive nature of our work, this role will be based permanently at our offices in Derby. There is an opportunity for occasional business travel to our waterfront locations in Plymouth, Faslane and Barrow-In-Furness to support the Tests & Trials section.

What you will be doing:
You will carry out fluid flow and heat transfer analysis to support robust design evaluation of the Nuclear Steam Raising Plant. You will also:
1. Use a combination of commercial and in-house developed codes and methods, to assess primary systems and their components to determine the consequences of a variety of normal operation and accident scenarios.
2. Define the pressure and temperature transient profiles for the life of the submarine on existing and future plant designs.
3. Perform development, verification and validation of models used in the analysis of the nuclear plant.

1. Be qualified to degree level or equivalent in STEM-related subjects, ideally with thermo-fluids experience.
2. Have a good understanding of fundamental engineering principles and processes and a solid understanding of the principles of fluid dynamics and heat transfer.
3. Be able to provide clear, concise and accurate technical requirements in written and verbal form.
4. Have excellent communication skills and be highly driven, striving to maintain excellent delivery performance.
5. Experience of simulating reactor coolant systems using industry-standard codes (such as RELAP5-3D, COBRA, TRACE, NLOOP) is desirable, but not mandatory.
