An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Ophthalmology Medical Retinal Specialist Nurse Team here at the University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust. We cover the whole population of North Staffordshire including Stoke on Trent and Newcastle Under Lyme.
This is a part-time role within the Ophthalmology department, and we are extending our Medical Retina service to meet the demands of the service and the needs of our patients. We welcome applications from Registered Nurses with a minimum of three years ophthalmic experience to join our team.
The successful candidate will be working with the Medical Retina / Macular Consultants at UHNM. We work very closely with all our ophthalmology teams and health care professionals. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced nurse who is dynamic, friendly, and strives to provide an excellent standard of care.
The primary role of this job opportunity is that of a Nurse Injector providing intra-vitreal injections for patients with Age Related Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Macular Odema, and Retinal Vein Occlusions. Having the skills to inject is desirable but not essential, as competencies and an in-house training package will be provided. Main duties of the job
1. In-depth knowledge of Medical Retina Conditions and treatments as well as other common Ophthalmic conditions.
2. Slit lamp examination of new and old Medical retina patients.
3. Completion and interpretation of OCT scans and other ophthalmic imaging.
4. Ability to complete Intravitreal injections.

Essential Qualifications
* Registered Nurse on active NMC register
* Educated to degree level
* Ophthalmic qualification or equivalent with at least 3 years experience working in ophthalmology
* Portfolio of certified/accredited professional development activity undertaken in relevant areas
Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience
* Minimum of 3 years post-registration experience
* Evidence of sound knowledge of medical retina conditions
* Ability to prioritise workload in response to service need
* Ability to work independently and as part of the wider team
* Excellent written and communication skills
* Ability to understand, interpret and critically analyse data and information
* Ability to complete examination of the eye using a Slit lamp
* Ability to complete Intravitreal injection procedure
