We have an exciting new opportunity for a Connections Digital Strategy Manager.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for driving the delivery and implementation of the Connections digital strategy and collaborating with key business and industry stakeholders.
Reporting into the Head of Connections Digital Strategy, you will be instrumental in ensuring that National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) is leading the way in the provision of digital solutions to drive better customer outcomes and a sharper commercial focus.
NGED has an ambition to continue being a leading, influential voice in the industry on Connections Reform; digital solutions play a significant role in delivering this. Digital transformation in the Connections space will be a critical enabler for NGED to deliver its key objectives under ED2, ED3, and Connections Reform.
You’ll confidently make improvements in the digital offering to our customers and the wider industry, driving efficiency of process, transparency of data, and an enhanced customer journey and experience.
You’ll be passionate about ‘digital first’ as well as customer excellence, have the ambition to play a key role in the UK’s shift to net zero carbon, and be highly skilled in stakeholder management and engagement.
Ideally, the base location of the role will be within the West/East Midlands (i.e., Warwick, Coventry, Birmingham, Castle Donington), but we’ll consider other locations for the right candidate. As part of our hybrid working approach, this role offers a mix of office and home working.
Main Responsibilities
1. Drive and deliver the connections digital strategy:
* Drive forwards the delivery of the connections digital strategy, implementing new digital tools and systems, and drive transparency of connections data to achieve NGED’s ambition and meet consumers’ needs.
* Collaborate with key stakeholders internally and externally to shape the future connections digital landscape.
* Map the existing connections digital architecture, providing a clear view of NGED’s existing digital tools and understanding of the gaps and overlaps that exist.
* Collaborate with existing business owners of the digital tools and IT&D to clarify ownership and identify opportunities to rationalise the tools and realise cost efficiencies.
1. Identify opportunities to improve existing processes:
* Identify opportunities to improve existing internal processes through digitalisation.
* Work closely with IT&D to fully scope and implement new digital solutions.
2. Collaborate with key stakeholders across NGED and the wider group to execute the digital strategy:
* Collaborate with key industry stakeholders (e.g., other DNOs, ENA, Ofgem) to understand the connections landscape and help shape a digital strategy to deliver innovative and future-proofed digital solutions.
* Collaborate with key customers to understand their needs and develop digital solutions that deliver excellent experiences.
* Build relationships with key stakeholders across the business (e.g., Field Ops, Asset Management, DSO).
* Work with IT&D to execute the digital strategy, prioritising effort and delivering efficiencies.
Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will have a real passion for digital innovation and transformation and be driven to create a digital culture. They will leverage their industry knowledge and draw on relevant insights to deliver digital solutions that position NGED as an industry leader in this space. They will be curious, analytical, and logical by nature with strong commercial acumen.
They will be committed to reforming the customer connections experience through delivery of innovative digital solutions to help drive better outcomes for customers and better financial performance for NGED.
The successful candidate will be educated to degree level or have equivalent relevant experience and ideally have knowledge of the connections industry, policies, stakeholders, networks, and the energy system.
Experienced in leading change within the digital space, including managing the implementation of new digital tools and processes. Highly skilled in stakeholder engagement and management to build a shared understanding of the digital opportunities in the connections arena. A clear communicator with strong commercial acumen, able to gain buy-in and alliance for successful delivery. This will mean they are resilient, results-driven, and future-focused, able to cut through, assess, and act.
National Grid Electricity Distribution is committed to safeguarding the interests of the Company, colleagues, and customers. This role is subject to a satisfactory Barring Service (DBS) check; depending on the role, different levels of screening and vetting are required. Some roles require a triannual check.
