Job Description:
We are looking for enthusiastic Science and Engineering undergraduates who enjoy solving complex problems to join our highly skilled team as part of a 12-month Industrial Placement. This placement will give you the opportunity to gain practical experience in real-world projects while working alongside talented engineers and contributing to the development of advanced systems for fast jets, UAVs, land, and naval platforms.
The Opportunity
Leonardo's Industrial Placement programme offers a paid placement (£25,000) to develop your knowledge and skills you require to become an engineering or business professional of the future.
Our Industrial Placement Programme is designed for students partway through their degree. You will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience while working on innovative projects that contribute to our business and technical solutions. The programme provides a wealth of development opportunities in both virtual and applied working environments. What you will do as a Microwave Industrial Placement Student
You will get the opportunity to develop lifelong skills with the support of world class experts in their field:
* Gain expertise in Microwave and RF design, working on systems operating up to 40GHz with world-class industry professionals
* Utilize the latest software tools to design components like TRMs, Up/Down Converters, and integrated RF and Digital boards
* Test and evaluate your designs in well-equipped laboratories, ensuring robust and reliable performance for decades of use
* Learn to deliver designs that meet the demanding performance requirements of electronic warfare systems
* Contribute to technical reviews, which may include travel within the UK or abroad

Key Responsibility Areas
* Work alongside senior engineers to design and develop microwave and RF components for high-performance systems
* Test and validate designs in laboratory environments to ensure they meet rigorous performance standards
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate your designs into larger electronic warfare systems
* Document the design and testing processes, sharing insights and progress with team members and stakeholders
* Support continuous improvement initiatives within the microwave engineering team
Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required
We are looking for students who are passionate about developing Microwave and RF systems and eager to contribute to complex engineering projects
* Education: You should be working towards a degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field with a strong interest in microwave and RF design
* Skills and Interests: A basic understanding of microwave/RF design principles is helpful, but no prior experience is required. We provide training and mentoring throughout the placement
* Teamwork and Problem-Solving: A proactive approach to problem-solving, with excellent teamwork and communication skills. Willingness to collaborate and grow in a dynamic environment
