Essential:
* BSc in Chemistry (2:1 and above) or significant industrial experience ideally in batch manufacturing
* Proven track record of demonstrating initiative, high agency and achievement.
* Eager to learn new techniques, dig deeply into chemistry and help synthesis new chemical formulations.
* Laboratory Skills: Proficiency in laboratory techniques and procedures is necessary. This includes knowledge of synthesis, characterisation, and testing of materials, as well as handling and analysing chemical samples.
Roles & Responsibilities:
As a Junior Chemist at Concrete4Change (C4C), you will play a pivotal role in the operation of our laboratory pilot plant, contributing directly to the development and industrial trial of innovative CO2 mineralisation technology. Your responsibilities will include:
Pilot Plant Operations
* Safely operate and manage complex chemical processes within the laboratory pilot plant.
* Assist in producing chemical formulations for industrial trials with leading concrete manufacturers globally.
* Perform process optimization and scaling for industrial applicability.
Chemical Synthesis and Formulation
* Conduct laboratory-scale synthesis of proprietary chemical formulations.
* Develop and refine new formulations to meet industrial performance and sustainability standards.
* Collaborate with the R&D team to explore innovative chemical approaches.
Troubleshooting and Maintenance
* Monitor and troubleshoot pilot plant systems to ensure continuous operation and product quality.
* Diagnose and resolve technical and chemical issues efficiently.
Chemical Characterisation and Testing
* Perform detailed chemical analysis and material characterization using:
* Spectroscopic techniques: FTIR, UV-Vis, NMR, Raman spectroscopy.
* Chromatographic methods: GC, HPLC.
* Thermal analysis: TGA, DSC.
* Microscopic techniques: SEM, TEM.
* X-ray techniques: XRD for crystallinity and phase analysis.
* Document results, interpret data, and report findings to the R&D team.

* Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to HSE regulations and company safety protocols.
* Ensure compliance with industry standards and internal quality assurance processes.
Continuous Learning and Contribution
* Stay updated with advancements in chemical and concrete technologies.
