Personal Care Assistant (Bank) for a young person P/T @ £13.09/hr in Ashington - NE63
We are looking for an experienced support worker prepared to cover potential sickness of workers that provide 2:1 support to a 6-year-old boy who lives in the Ashington area. This role is therefore a short notice, ad hoc arrangement on a zero hours contract.
The support is to encourage socialisation with peers and engagement in age-appropriate activities outside of the family home.
The child lives at home with his parents and three siblings. He has a diagnosis of ADHD, autism, learning difficulties, nystagmus, and a rare chromosome abnormality. He does have a gastronomy feeding tube in situ, and full training will be provided on this prior to commencement. Personal care, including toileting, will be required within the role.
The young boy is very active and enjoys climbing, being outside in the car, and generally making a mess; as most children his age do. He does need somebody who can calm his behaviour when he becomes over-excited. Support workers are required to support him in engaging with activities such as soft play while ensuring his safety at all times. You should be physically fit to undertake this role.
A car driver is not essential as there is a lot to do locally. However, if you are a car driver, you should have business use insurance as a necessity. Mileage will be paid in agreement with the employer.
The ideal applicant will be:
1. Experienced with supporting children with additional needs
2. Experienced with supporting non-verbal individuals or those with challenging behaviour
3. Able to work successfully alongside a second worker at all times
4. Have a calm, confident, controlled personality
5. Have flexibility to meet the requirements of the hours
6. Be proactive and able to take the lead in appropriate situations
Hours Breakdown:
1. 6 hours on alternate weekends (fortnightly) during term-time (when required to cover illness)
2. 6 hours per week during the school holidays (when required to cover illness)
A full enhanced Disclosure and Barring Certificate will be required, and the full cost will be met by the employer. Where appropriate, all training will be provided including medication administration, moving & handling, and safeguarding. As a direct payment employment, you will also be able to access free online training via Northumberland County Council Learning & Development Portal.
