Job Title: Non-Executive Director (Marketing Focus)
Location: Scotland (with options for remote attendance at meetings)
Commitment: Part-time, voluntary role (approximately 8–10 days per year)
About the Charity
Lochlan’s Legacy is a small but impactful charity dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of Type 1 Diabetes, reducing stigma, breaking down barriers, promoting youth voice and building a strong community. We are passionate about making a positive difference in Scotland and are looking for an experienced marketing professional to join our Board of Trustees as a Non-Executive Director.
Role Purpose
As a Non-Executive Director with a marketing focus, you will play a key role in shaping the charity's strategic direction, particularly regarding marketing, communications, and brand development. You will provide independent oversight and constructive challenge to the executive team, ensuring that marketing activities effectively support the charity's mission, increase visibility, and drive engagement with stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide strategic guidance on marketing, PR, and communications activities.
2. Support the development and implementation of marketing plans that align with the charity’s goals.
3. Advise on digital marketing strategies, including social media, website content, and email marketing.
4. Champion the charity’s brand and ensure consistency across all channels.
5. Offer insight on stakeholder engagement and public relations opportunities.
6. Contribute to fundraising campaigns by advising on marketing approaches to attract donors and partners.
7. Attend board meetings (quarterly) and sub-committee meetings as required.
8. Monitor marketing performance and advise on improvements where necessary.
9. Ensure that marketing activities are compliant with relevant regulations and reflect best practices.
Person Specification
1. Proven experience in marketing, communications, or brand management.
2. Strategic thinker with the ability to balance long-term vision and short-term priorities.
3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
4. Understanding of digital marketing channels and analytics.
5. Commitment to the charity’s mission and values.
6. Previous experience serving on a board or in a trustee role.
7. Knowledge of the charity sector in Scotland.
8. Familiarity with fundraising marketing strategies.
9. PR and media relations experience.
