To provide advanced technical support to all end users (Scientific and Technical staff) across the North West Genomic Laboratory Hub (NWGLH), via email, phone or face-to-face, in order to resolve technical problems relating to PCs, instruments, printers and other IT equipment, including specialist software and databases.
To troubleshoot and resolve complicated technical issues within the scope of the GLH team.
To uphold agreed service levels, technical standards and policies.
Act as a point of contact for computer-related advice, within the Laboratory (Win10, Linux, VDI, Desktop, Laptops, peripherals, software, and instruments), and maintain extensive knowledge and expertise of market developments and standards related to this area.
To liaise with the constituent central IT departments of the GLH (Manchester Foundation Trust MFT, The Christie Foundation Trust, and Liverpool Women's Foundation Trust LWFT) to provide timely support to the GLH.
Main duties of the job
Skills & knowledge required
You'll bring experience of working in a customer-facing IT infrastructure support role. This will have included providing first-, second- and third-line support with the PC client environment. You'll also need knowledge of local area networks and wide area networks, server support and email systems.
Proven experience in the management and use of service desk systems and call distribution systems is also important. You'll thrive under pressure and be ready to work flexibly, including some out-of-hours shifts.
