Berghahn Books is seeking a Senior Marketing Executive to help oversee its global marketing activities and subject strategy. Based in our Oxford office, this position requires an accomplished marketer with proven experience as a Marketing Executive or equivalent, ready for their next step in publishing.
The Senior Marketing Executive will report to the Marketing Manager and play an essential role in executing key areas of the subject strategy, overseeing a range of marketing activities to promote Berghahn Books’ extensive portfolio of frontlist and backlist titles, spanning the Humanities and Social Sciences.
The ideal candidate should have experience in campaign management, email marketing, and paid advertising (search and social media). A background in publishing and/or author communications will be valuable for the role, and an interest in social sciences a plus.
As an independent press, this varied position will offer an exciting opportunity to get hands-on insight into many facets of the publishing process, while putting you at the forefront of diverse marketing strategies in the scholarly publishing space.
Overview of the role
Your key responsibilities will include:
Marketing
* Plan and execute multi-channel marketing campaigns feeding into subject marketing strategy, including front and backlist titles.
* Provide author care and liaise with authors to provide direct marketing support.
* Contribute to creation of ad hoc marketing collateral e.g. author and series flyers, ad visuals, social media graphics etc.
* Identify and execute external and partnership advertising opportunities within allocated list.
* Execute email marketing campaigns (using Mailchimp) to promote front and backlist titles.
* Contribute to review and inspection copy processes e.g. organising review copy sends, responding to digital copy requests etc.
Social Media
* Contribute to organic social media strategy across channels e.g. creating cross-channel organic social content to feed into wider marketing objectives.
* Plan, execute, and monitor paid social media campaigns as required.
Conferences
* Take ownership of conference organisation for selected events, and manage budget of associated costs – including; shipping book lists, organising conference events, conference advertising, handling attending author requests.
Marketing reporting
* Contribute to reporting on usage performance statistics and metrics for marketing review – e.g. Mailchimp, social media.
* Monitor and optimise campaign performance on an ongoing basis.
Requirements
* Proven experience in marketing and campaign delivery, ideally within the publishing sector (proven Marketing Executive experience is essential).
* Proven experience working with various areas of the marketing mix e.g. campaign management, email marketing, and paid advertising (search and social media), and experience developing marketing strategy beneficial.
* Experience with budget management.
* Knowledge of Excel, MailChimp, Publisher, as well as basic desktop publishing skills, such as familiarity with Canva, a plus.
* Excellent communication skills, and a strong command of English grammar and spelling.
* Experience with author communications and care will be beneficial for this role.
