JFD are recruiting a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Military Engineering team at Westhill, Aberdeenshire. As our Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will provide engineering design solutions and through-life engineering support to our military product range. Working as a technical lead for the team, you will drive new product designs to meet client requirements and support existing client requests to upgrade or change equipment in the field. This role will suit a confident Senior Mechanical Engineer who is experienced in making engineering decisions and can manage and coordinate a small team.
Responsibilities:
* Provide engineering design input to new products.
* Provide engineering support to the existing product range.
* Assess technical queries and provide engineering solutions to a wide-ranging products portfolio.
* Liaise with internal JFD departments such as sales, procurement, and production to ensure the best technical solution is provided in all instances.
* Sourcing suitable components and materials when required.
* Creation of part numbers and bill of materials.
* Creation of engineering documentation such as specifications, proposals, assembly instructions, test procedures, certification, and reports.
* Checking detailed manufacturing drawings and documentation.
* Ensuring engineering solutions are provided on time and on budget.
* Adherence to engineering and company standards and processes.
* Site visits to other JFD offices and client assets as required.
* Accountability and responsibility as technical approver of drawings and documentation generated in support of the senior mechanical engineer role.
* Compliance with internal and external standards & regulations.
* Responsible for promoting engagement to achieve a resilient, diverse, and high-performing team.
* Develop and mentor the team through training and development plans.
What do you need?
Skills:
* Skilled in generating design calculations.
* Excellent knowledge of manufacturing techniques.
* Excellent knowledge of gas and fluid systems.
* Knowledge of Pressure Vessel design skills using PD5500, ASME VIII, EN 13445.
* Knowledge of design standards.
* Knowledge of industry guidelines such as IMCA.
* Previous product design experience would be advantageous.
Experience:
* Substantial experience in a mechanical engineer or product engineer role.
* Experience with PLM system for generating and storage of engineering packages.
* Previous diving equipment design experience would be advantageous.
Qualifications:
* Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent industry experience.
* Any relevant diving qualifications would be advantageous.
