Leading Tier 1 main contractor is looking for 1-2 experienced Design Managers to join their design team, focussing on public sector new build schemes, schools, hospitals and prisons. This role is to ensure that the design intent is effectively managed through review, interrogation and management of the design during pre-construction and on live projects.
This role requires time being spent between project sites and the head office in Derbyshire / Regional Offices.
Ideally the design manager will have a degree or equivalent, in a relevant construction related discipline with a strong design / project delivery background

Operate design management with a high level of technical understanding alongside contractual, commercial and programme awareness. Understand any modelling requirements and ensure these are maintained throughout the life of the project and in line with the contract

Develop and manage the RFI and change process alongside the document control requirements, input into the design programming alongside the planner and wider consultant and subcontract team.

Manage the design relationship between the Client, Design Consultants, designing subcontractors and statutory bodies, acting as the point of contract on design matters.

Define, record and manage the scope of duties of each of the design consultants and designing subcontractors, ensuring that these are included in the relevant appointment and subcontract documents. Produce a design responsibility matrix to capture requirement and ownership of design responsibilities. Provide comments on appointments and advise on the need for additional services

Ensure that design team reviews are completed at regular intervals, and that any corrective actions required are dealt with quickly and efficiently.
