Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people with special educational needs? Do you have a background in health care or as a support worker? If so, we want you to join our dedicated team to work at a Special Educational Needs School located in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. This is a mixed position that involves working with class teachers to ensure that lessons are delivered in accordance with students' individualised learning goals, and support students on a 1:1 basis.
SEN Support Staff Responsibilities:
* Assist teachers with lesson planning, delivering lessons under the teacher's guidance, and helping students with their learning on a 1:1 and small group basis.
* Provide one-on-one and group support to students with special educational needs, helping them to access the curriculum and participate fully in school life.
* Foster a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere, ensuring the well-being and engagement of students with SEN.
* Work with class teachers, other support staff, and the senior leadership team to provide the best educational, emotional, and social support.
* Support the emotional and social development of students, addressing any behavioral challenges with patience and understanding.
* Assist with maintaining classroom discipline and supporting students with behavioural issues.
* Work with students with special educational needs and help them adapt to teaching methods and materials.
SEN Support Staff Requirements:
* Must hold the Right to Work in the UK.
* Previous experience working with children or young people with special educational needs, preferably in a school setting.
* Background in health care or as a support worker, with relevant qualifications and/or certifications.
* Be aware of and knowledgeable about different additional needs such as ASC, ADHD, MLD, and SEMH.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
* Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and commitment to the welfare of all students.
* The ability to manage and promote positive behaviour in line with school policy.
* Hold a Child only DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
