We are excited to be able to offer an opportunity to join the Skin Cancer Team as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Skin Cancer for Part time, 22.5 hours per week at Colchester Hospital. These hours can be worked flexibly between Monday - Friday.
As a Skin Cancer CNS you will provide expert care and support to patients having oncology treatment from diagnosis and throughout their pathway including supporting and preparing for end of life. You will play a key role in the multidisciplinary team and act as a central point of coordination and support for the patient, their family and the wider team. Our goal is to improve patient pathways and experiences, access to supportive services, early signposting, safe transfer on to surveillance pathways or remaining a key touch point for patients up to and including their end of life.
You will work autonomously and as part of the wider team, have exceptional communication skills and a motivation to provide outstanding, person-centred, holistic care. Ideally you will have post-registration experience within Skin Cancer services, oncology/chemotherapy or Dermatology surgical services and be committed to undertaking further study to continually develop and respond to changing service needs.
We would consider Band 6 developmental roles.
Main duties of the job
* Provide specialist psychological, social and practical support that is responsive to the perceptions and needs of patients with Skin cancer and their families.
* Act as a point of contact for patients receiving Chemotherapy, Immunotherapy and Supportive therapies for Skin cancer.
* Participate and contribute in both the local Skin Multi-disciplinary and any appropriate Specialist multi-disciplinary (SMDT)
* Acting as an autonomous practitioner, providing specialist clinical information to patients about their diagnosis and treatment in order for them to make informed decisions when required; acting as the patients advocate when appropriate.
* Liaise with referring teams, overseeing treatment planning ensuring understanding and informed consent with regards to proposed procedures. To act as a patients' advocate and to give advice regarding treatment options, in order that patients are able to give informed consent.
* Accept and Initiate referrals to other agencies / professionals where appropriate recognizing the unique role each member of the team has to play in caring for patients with cancer.
* Demonstrate specialist knowledge and skills in Skin oncology care and share this with other professionals to positively influence patient care.
* Provide clinical leadership through demonstration as an expert practitioner and role model.
* Initiate and participate in nursing/multi-professional research and audit.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse recorded on the NMC register
* Teaching and assessing in clinical practice qualification.
* Evidence or relevant post registration study to include at least one of the following: ENB 237/equivalent (Oncology), ENB 931/equivalent (Palliative Care), UKONS SACT Passport
* Advanced communication skills
* Psychological Care Level 2
* Evidence of studying at a minimum of level 6 (first degree) with a willingness to study towards level 7 (Masters)
* Evidence of ongoing CPD.
* MSc level or working towards
* Non-medical prescribing
* Leadership Qualification course
* Counselling skills
* Consent training
* Consultation and assessment course
Experience
* Significant proven post registration experience in Dermatology nursing.
* A broad range of experience working with Oncology patients and their families who have complex psychosocial needs
* Understanding and management of patients undergoing SACT.
* Experience of audit and research
* Experience of teaching and assessing in clinical practice.
* Competencies relevant to care group.
* Understanding and experience of Acute Oncology.
* Proven previous band 6/7 experience
* Can demonstrate evidence of leading service development.
* Experience of enhancing patient care.
