The opportunity
For more than 60 years, the British Heart Foundation (BHF) has been at the forefront of cutting-edge research to save and improve millions of lives. Despite the progress we've made, our work has never been more needed; heart and circulatory diseases remain the biggest killers globally, with around 7.6 million people living with these conditions today in the United Kingdom alone. Our lifesaving work is primarily advanced through long-term investment in medical research, and we currently have over £400 million of BHF-funded research underway. Powered by an incredible team of volunteers, colleagues, supporters, partners, and scientists, we are more ambitious and determined than ever with potential cures and treatments we need now in sight.
Our Audit and Risk Committee plays a key role in supporting the Board of Trustees in ensuring that the overall governance of BHF is fit for purpose and providing oversight of BHF's financial reporting, internal controls, risk management systems, and major projects particularly around technology and retail.
We are seeking to appoint an experienced corporate/commercial lawyer to join the Committee, ideally with experience in advising on Life Sciences/Research & Development matters, acting at partner or consultant level within a City firm, or as General Counsel within a PLC.
