A manufacturer of steel construction related products supplied nationally, is now seeking an Assistant Production Manager to join their business based near Walsall.
The company has been operating for over 50 years and has several facilities across the black country. The business has been ticking along for the last few years, but due to a surge in business, turnover has doubled. This has generated the need for some key hires to make improvements and bring the company into the 21 st century with new systems, processes, and modern ways of working and driving down costs.
This is a brand-new position in the business, developed to support the Production Manager in reaching the companies production targets OTIF (On time in full) and within budget. The overall Production team is made up on around 80 skilled individuals including Welders, Fabricators, Metal workers, Machinists and Logistics staff.
Reporting to the Production Manager, as the Assistant Production Manager, you will ensure this facility deliver on the growth it is experiencing. You will lead a team of around 50 people within the facility to ensure that the team delivers on its production targets. You will perform a range of management duties such as training, mentoring, absenteeism, disciplinaries, health and safety and more.
Some of the main responsibilities of this Assistant Production Manager are listed below:
1. Leading 3 areas of production on site including Steel Fabrication, you’ll be tasked to take production standards to the next level
2. Take responsibility for implementing any changes within the factory and monitoring the results and progress
3. Work with the wider production team and business, making sure that your team has the right materials and tools to do the job in an effective and cost-efficient way
4. Training, developing and mentoring your team, working with them and the business to deliver any training plans to ensure the team is highly skilled, motivated and capable.
5. Budget Management – Ensuring the department is run to budget and where possible delivering cost savings
6. Ensure that all health and safety procedures are always adhered to.
What you will need to be a successful Assistant Production Manager
7. Prior experience in leading a production team, ideally within a fabrication and welding environment
8. The ability manage large numbers of people effectively. Ensuring that the business has the right staff where they need to be and to manage the adherence to health and safety policies
9. Conduct investigations and disciplinaries
10. Strong communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships across the business
