An exciting opportunity has arisen for a trainee advanced clinical practitioner within the emergency department. We are a busy dynamic major trauma centre providing high-quality care to patients from a rural and urban environment.
As a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner, you will already be a senior experienced clinician ideally with extensive A&E or acute and critical care knowledge, underpinned by your use of advanced clinical skills. You will be a motivated team player who possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills. The successful candidate should possess a strong desire to develop themselves to deliver outstanding care within the four pillars of advanced clinical practice, helping to develop the advanced practice strategy within the Emergency Department.
The successful candidate should be prepared to work in all areas of the emergency department, assessing patients with undifferentiated medical emergencies. You will report to the Lead ACP and Consultant, who will oversee your development and progress.
You will be part of a team of people who will be instrumental in developing and delivering our plans moving forward and will contribute positively to the development of the patient pathways for acute medicine. You will be required to rotate between day duty and night duty including weekends.
Main duties of the job
This role can be defined as a trainee clinician, part of the Emergency Department (ED) clinical team required to assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate treatment/interventions for patients presenting with an undifferentiated diagnosis. You will be learning to be able to work across every area of the ED and work towards being able to deliver a high standard of autonomous care to all patients attending the ED, whilst working within your own professional scope of practice and acknowledging any limitations you may have as a TACP. You must be able to work independently within the four pillars of advanced practice by contributing to departmental education delivery, departmental management meetings, as well as participating in clinical research and audit alongside your clinical duties, before you are able to transition fully to the AfC Band 8a ACP role. You will also be required to complete your academic master's study which must encompass Non-medical Prescribing (NMP). Once this criterion is met, this JD should be replaced with the AfC Band 8a ACP in ED JD.

1. Develop high-level skills in assessing, differentially diagnosing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individual treatment interventions for patients by virtue of growing expert clinical judgement and partnership with members of the MDT.
2. Develop expertise and decision-making skills to inform clinical reasoning approaches when dealing with differentiated and undifferentiated individual presentations and complex situations, synthesising information from multiple sources to make appropriate, evidence-based judgements and/or diagnoses.
3. Under direct or indirect supervision, initiate, evaluate and modify a range of interventions which may include prescribing medicines, therapies, lifestyle advice and care.
4. Demonstrate professional judgement to manage risk appropriately, especially where there may be complex and unpredictable events and supporting teams to do likewise to ensure safety of individuals, families and carers.
5. Develop complex decision-making skills to promote high-quality care in unpredictable and challenging circumstances.
6. Ensure compliance with their respective code of professional conduct and work within their scope of practice.
7. Work in conjunction with the MDT to clearly define values, direction and policies impacting upon care.

13. Evidence the underpinning subject-specific competencies i.e. knowledge, skills and behaviours relevant to the role setting and scope, and demonstrate application of the capabilities to these, in an approach that is appropriate to the individual role, setting and scope.
14. If applicable to role and profession, issue fit notes in accordance with local and national guidance.
15. Initiate drug therapy/medication within the parameters of agreed clinical guidelines and in accordance with the legal framework you work under to supply and prescribe medicines (if from professional group legally entitled to prescribe).
16. Work clinically within the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) curriculum, keeping accurate records of work-based assessments, and advance your practice over time in line with the curriculum and credentialing process.
17. Deliver and participate in the clinical care of all patients attending the Emergency Department (Majors, Ambulatory, Resus, Paediatrics and Minors). This encompasses the need to appropriately assess, examine, investigate, diagnose and treat patients, resulting in the safe referral or discharge of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed presentations.
18. Practice with confidence and competence within the legal and governance frameworks that oversee your practice such as the NMC/HCPC, RCEM, NICE Guidelines and local UHP clinical guidelines.
