Job Advert Role Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the Psychology service at Stockton Hall Hospital. The ideal candidate will be an experienced Consultant Psychologist, with robust experience within a forensic setting; someone who is a confident leader and is keen to develop to contribute to service development, including trauma informed care.
At Stockton Hall Hospital, just outside York, we are well-known for producing positive clinical outcomes for highly complex patients. We currently provide a medium-secure care setting in which patients access a broad range of therapeutic interventions including one-to-one and group-based psychological treatments.
Our service has produced excellent recovery results for patients, maximising their opportunity to progress to conditions of lower-security and community settings as safely and efficiently as possible.
You will join an experienced and well-established senior management team, who are highly committed to the service and strive for excellence in clinical care for their patient group. The service is currently configured across seven wards, providing care for up to 88 male and female patients with a broad range of diagnoses including autism spectrum disorder, learning disability, mental illness, and personality disorder. This diverse patient population makes Stockton Hall a fulfilling and stimulating environment in which to work, and provides the opportunity to develop a broad range of clinical skills as well as areas of clinical specialism. The hospital is currently undergoing an exciting process of service reconfiguration and opportunities to be involved in new service developments are available.
The Head of Psychology will work closely with the Hospital Director, Director of Clinical Services and Medical Director. It will be the responsibility of the Head of Psychology to ensure both the professional psychological practice and quality of the psychology department, to ensure excellence in patient experience and outcomes.
1. You will be a confident leader who is keen to help develop others.
2. You will understand the dynamics of working in a secure hospital and be able to help offer containment and support to those who need it within a culture of compassion.
3. You will provide professional leadership to the psychology team, contribute to the development of services and work to influence organisational thinking relating to the delivery of psychologically informed care.
4. You will advise at a senior management level on psychological aspects of organisational functioning, including the health and well-being of our colleagues.
5. You will also work clinically with a dynamic multi-professional team leading development of individual formulations and psychological assessment. With the support of other members of the psychology team, you will support the development and delivery of behavioural and other psychological interventions for patients and service users and provide appropriately developed psychologically informed guidance to reduce risks, aid recovery and independence.
6. As Head of Psychology you will be also be working with clients with complex needs.
7. You will hold a clinical caseload, develop and deliver formulation led care, and be competent in a range of therapeutic delivery such as EMDR, DBT, CBT and CAT.
8. You will be responsible for the delivery of reflective practice groups within the services and do so with an understanding of the model underpinning your service.
9. You will have effective consultancy skills and able to manage clinical/organisational projects; and have competence in line management responsibilities and service-related standards including clinical governance.
