About the role
Are you an experienced leader ready to drive operational excellence in construction? Balfour Beatty, a global leader in infrastructure, is looking for a dedicated General Foreman to join our dynamic team working on the M3, Junction 9. This role offers an exciting opportunity to supervise a diverse workforce and manage subcontractor performance while ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and productivity.
Role Purpose:
As a General Foreman, you will play a crucial role in the successful execution of construction projects by providing hands-on leadership and oversight of all on-site activities. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. You will be the vital link between the project management team, your workforce, and subcontractors, facilitating clear communication and collaboration across all levels.
What you'll be doing
In this role, you will:
* Supervise and Lead Teams: Directly oversee foremen, gangers, and laborers, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary tools, information, and resources to perform their tasks effectively.
* Enhance Safety Culture: Foster a proactive safety culture by implementing and enforcing health and safety policies and practices.
* Ensure Compliance: Monitor compliance with all regulatory and company safety standards, conducting regular inspections and safety tours to identify potential hazards and address them before they lead to incidents.
* Drive Quality Assurance: Guarantee that all work meets specified quality standards by conducting regular inspections and audits.
* Facilitate Productivity: Actively manage project timelines and resources to ensure productivity targets are met.
* Collaborate with Engineering Teams: Work closely with engineering and project management teams to communicate requirements, resource needs, and any challenges that may arise during construction.
* Promote Sustainability: Support the delivery of sustainability initiatives within the project, ensuring that all activities align.
Key Responsibilities:

* Develop Work Package Plans: Collaborate with the project team to create comprehensive Work Package Plans and detailed Risk Assessments that address all aspects of safety.
* Identify Hazards: Proactively identify potential hazards in the work environment and develop effective strategies to mitigate risks.
* Conduct Safety Briefings: Lead regular toolbox talks to communicate safety expectations, procedures, and updates to the workforce.
* Safety Tours: Perform routine Safety & Environmental Tours to assess compliance with health and safety regulations and identify areas for improvement whilst ensuring that all environmental policies are effectively communicated and adhered to.
* Resource Management: Work closely with the Engineering team to assess future project requirements, ensuring that adequate resources and materials are allocated for each phase of construction.
* Conduct Inspections: Perform independent inspections of work to ensure compliance with specifications, workmanship standards, and project quality requirements.
* Manage Non-Conformances: Identify, document, and report any Non-Conformances, ensuring that corrective actions are taken promptly.
* Promote Quality Culture: Foster a culture of ‘Right First Time’ within the team, ensuring that all personnel understand the importance of quality and adherence to specifications.
* Monitor Progress: Contribute to the weekly program by monitoring progress against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and adjusting resources as necessary to meet deadlines.
* Communicate Targets: Clearly communicate weekly targets and key milestones to all team members, ensuring alignment on project objectives and expectations.
* Material Wastage Assessment: Assess material usage and implement strategies to minimize wastage, ensuring efficient use of resources.
* Cost Control: Validate labour and plant records against project budgets and support cost control.
