AF Fasteners, based in Glossop, are an independent company who have been manufacturing precision fasteners for the aerospace industry for the past 30 years. Precision engineering means we have to focus on quality which is delivered through engineering knowledge, manufacturing excellence and extensive quality testing capabilities.
Our products are supplied to established aerospace companies including Airbus, BAE Systems, Hawker Beechcraft, Aerostructures Hamble, Agusta Westland, Goodrich, MBDA, Flight Refuelling, Hurel Dubois, Monarch Airlines, KLM, Messier Dowty, Rolls Royce, Ultra Electronics, Terma and Cesa.
The Package
* Starting salary of £23,322 per year (£11.50 per hour)
* 4 day working week!
* Monday to Thursday, 6:00AM – 4:30PM
* 39 hours per week

What will I be doing as a Technical Engineering (Materials) Degree Apprentice?
We are looking for a Technical Engineering Degree Apprentice to join our team. This role offers hands-on experience in engineering design, maintenance, and production while working towards a Level 6 Applied Materials Science degree qualification.
Key Responsibilities:
* Work on engineering projects, including CAD design, material selection, and process improvements.
* Assist with contract reviews, ensuring accurate drawings and production planning.
* Learn about machinery setup, maintenance, and preventative care across the site.
* Support cost control, purchase order processing, and supplier performance management.
* Conduct failure analysis using microscopy and chemical analysis.
* Develop technical reports and explore new engineering solutions.
* Research and implement new processes and materials to improve efficiency.
* Gain production experience to build a well-rounded engineering background.
* Learn about tooling, die processes, and material specifications.
* Support environmental, health, and safety initiatives, including risk assessments.
* Participate in R&D projects to identify cost-saving and efficiency improvements.
* Develop financial management skills to support project budgeting.
* Build leadership skills to take on supervisory responsibilities in the future.

Over 33 months, you will develop your knowledge and skills in your chosen field to become a leader pushing development, knowledge generation and innovation.
You will be provided with 6 hours per week by your employer to conduct learning and training during working hours. This can include theory training (for example, virtual lessons & online learning), alongside practical training (for example shadowing, mentoring, & time spent writing assignments).
You'll be trained by a team of expert tutors from Tiro as well as an experienced workplace mentor at AF Fasteners who, together, will make sure you develop the knowledge, skills, and work habits you'll need to succeed in your career.

Entry requirements
There are some minimum requirements you'll need to meet to do an apprenticeship, these are rules set by the UK Government.
You'll need to be over 18, not in full-time education (at time of enrolment), have lived in the UK for 3 years and have the right to work in the UK.
Alongside this you will need to have a minimum of Level 3 qualifications (A-levels, BTECs, or equivalent) AND relevant work experience or lab-based experience.
