Main duties of the job
Anaesthetics
Work alongside the anaesthetist in caring for patients in the administration and maintenance of general, regional and local anaesthetics
Preparation of a wide range of specialist equipment such as anaesthetic machines and devices, to safely secure the patient's airway during anaesthesia and support maintenance of their cardio-vascular stability
Monitor, assess and respond to changes in the patient condition as required, evaluating care provided

The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Theatre Practitioner in the Anaesthetics and Recovery team at the West Wing Department in John Radcliffe Hospital.
The Trust/Ward/Department
Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country. It provides a wide range of general and specialist clinical services and is a base for medical education, training, and research. The Trust comprises four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.
The West Wing Operating Theatre Department at the John Radcliffe Hospital, is a 14-theatre unit and provides elective and emergency care for adults and children. It is one of four highly specialised craniofacial centres in the UK, one of seven specialist units for cleft lip & palate surgery. It is a tertiary referral centre for neurosurgery and the unit is recognised for ground-breaking work in ophthalmology surgery. Other specialities include ENT, Maxilla-Facial and children (general surgery & orthopaedics).
The Responsibilities

1. Work alongside the anaesthetist in caring for patients in the administration and maintenance of general, regional and local anaesthetics
2. Preparation of a wide range of specialist equipment such as anaesthetic machines and devices, to safely secure the patient's airway during anaesthesia and support maintenance of their cardio-vascular stability
3. Monitor, assess and respond to changes in the patient condition as required, evaluating care provided
4. To act as the patients advocate during the perioperative period of care
5. To be responsible for anticipating and providing skilled clinical and technical assistance as a member of the operating theatre team
6. To participate in the assessment of patient care needs and implement and maintain agreed standards of care
7. Follow Codes of Professional Practice providing high quality and safe care to patients undergoing procedures within the Perioperative environment
8. Work effectively within a team

10. Current relevant professional registration - HCPC/NMC
11. Enhanced DBS
12. UK/NHS experience
13. Proficient IT knowledge and Microsoft Office skills
14. Anaesthetic Practitioner
15. EPR experience desirable
