SRL Traffic Systems is hiring a proactive Operative to support our busy depot in Selkirk. Why SRL Traffic Systems? We're at the forefront of traffic management innovation, providing temporary traffic systems like portable signals, message boards, and CCTV. What You'll Do as an Operative: As an Operative, you will play a key role in ensuring equipment readiness, maintaining high safety standards, and supporting depot operations. Your responsibilities will include delivering, setting up, and servicing portable traffic equipment, ensuring all equipment is in working order before deployment. A mobile phone, company van, and fuel card will be provided. Hours of work per week will be 42.5. Overtime will be applied on an as-needed basis, with on-call duties scheduled on a rota basis. Shift pattern: 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Key Responsibilities: Deliver and set up portable traffic lights and conduct battery exchanges. Carry out inspections, servicing, and minor repairs of hire fleet equipment at depots and customer sites. Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following health and safety protocols and reporting potential hazards. Support a safety-first culture by identifying and reporting near misses and risks. Ensure all equipment is fully checked and meets quality standards before leaving the depot. Maintain stock levels of batteries and spares, notifying the supervisor when minimum levels are reached. Keep accurate records, including serviceability reports and customer interactions. Represent the company in a professional manner and build strong relationships with customers and colleagues. Participate in training and development to ensure safe and effective work practices. Perform other duties as assigned by the line manager. What We’re Looking For: Essential: Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Full UK driving licence (maximum of six points). Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to deliver excellent customer service both internally and externally. A commitment to safety and following procedures. Desirable: Basic electrical fault-finding skills. Experience in highways or traffic light equipment. CSCS card holder. Competent in driving company vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes and towing trailers.
