A great opportunity to join a progressive and growing division of an International Manufacturer.
This office-based varied role requires a hands-on project engineer to work within a wider engineering team to help manage and deliver projects to budget and within a timeline.
The role may suit an experienced Mechanical Design or Quality Engineer wanting to develop their skills and career in a Project Engineering remit.
To assist with the management of NPI programmes, undertaking tasks as allocated by the NPI manager to ensure risk minimisation, compliance to the agreed programme targets, and to customer/industry standards and requirements. Work with the Programme Managers and wider engineering team to assist with the activities of both New Product Development and Product Change Requests (PCRs), liaising with customers, suppliers, internal departments, and global divisions. Involvement in the full project lifecycle, from design to implementation.
Main Responsibilities:
1. New Product Development and Introduction:
2. Reporting to the NPI Manager, you will be required to assist with interpretation of customer requirements, definition of customer specifications and development of robust design solutions to time and on budget.
3. Assist Programme Managers with all aspects of NPI project requirements from initial concept to design freeze, production implementation and SOP.
4. Work with and adhere to the requirements of the 6-phase NPI procedure.
5. Solve technical issues independently and escalate complex challenges or roadblocks where necessary.
6. Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
7. Assist with determination of customer requirements.
8. Assist with preparation of NPI documentation (BOMs, PFEP, QADs etc) for submitting to the commercial team.
9. Maintenance of project NPI documentation.
10. Managing product run out to minimise obsolescence.
11. Assisting the commercial team in preparation of quotations for the products.
12. Participate in the presentation of the programme offers to the customers.
13. Coordinate Programme Review Meetings with project team members and customers.
14. Elevate programme issues to the management team where required.
15. Assist with End of Phase Reviews (EOPR's) with project team members and management in line with the project timeline.
16. Participation as required in Design, DFMEA, DFR and PFMEA reviews.
17. Capture changes in scope relative to original specification and/or programme deliverables.
18. Creation and maintenance of timelines in accordance with programme requirements.
19. Actively engage in any customer or internal driven VA/VE exercises.
20. Customer liaison/visits, in order to:
1. Discuss technical objectives.
2. Build and enhance relationships with customer personnel.
3. Assist or accompany sales personnel.
4. Raising Customer concessions/deviations as required.
21. Product Change Requests:
22. Manage the validation and implementation of changes arising from PCRs and where named as the change co-ordinator.
23. Closely manage PCR introductions to minimise obsolescence and meet timelines.
Person Specification
Specific Qualifications:
HNC / HND in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering (or suitable relevant experience).
Previous Work Experience:
Project Engineer or Project Manager experience in automotive or similar industry. Customer-facing role, comfortable with both technical and project management issues. Specific knowledge in the subject of HVAC is desirable but not essential. Project-specific, commercial awareness is desirable but not essential.
Specific Knowledge / Skills Competence:
Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings. Experience of using PLM and ERP systems. Effective customer management and negotiation skills. Computer literate with competency in using PC-based and network systems to acquire, manipulate and disseminate information. Good organisational and time management skills. Confident in contact with customers and suppliers on both technical and project-related issues. Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of software including Microsoft Project. Cross-functional team collaboration. Time management and organisational skills.
Other Requirements:
Periodic travel will be an aspect of this role. Must possess a full UK driving licence and be willing to travel within the UK and possibly Europe. Must have the legal right to work in the U.K without sponsorship.
