An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager to join a fantastic team within General Medicine on Ward 20.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated individual with an interest in General Medicine to support the Ward Manager to ensure the delivery of a high standard of care to all our patients.
You should be motivated, forward thinking in your approach, and possess excellent communication and inter-personal skills. A degree of flexibility in approach is required along with a willingness to learn whilst working in a potentially challenging environment. You must be highly skilled with excellent clinical knowledge, demonstrating a clear understanding of the Trust values and behaviours.
The successful candidate will be required to work shifts on a rotational basis, including night duty.
Main duties of the job
* Designated to take regular charge of the ward/department in the absence of the Ward/Departmental manager.
* Ensure appropriate use of financial and other resources supporting the ward manager in maintaining a balanced budget.
* Act as an expert practitioner within the appropriate speciality, participating in direct patient care and demonstrating an advanced level and practice and knowledge.
* Ensure the effective and timely admission and discharge of patients.
* Assist in creating a therapeutic environment which meets the needs of patients, relatives and carers.
* Assist in promoting a critical, analytic approach to delivery of care and implementing changes to improve systems.
* Participate in audits and implement change, based on audit outcomes.
* Act as preceptor and mentor to junior staff.
* Lead the team in the absence of the Ward or Department Manager.
* Participate in the recruitment, selection and appraisals of Junior staff.

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training
Essential
* 1st Level Registered Nurse (relevant to area of work)
* Relevant diploma / degree or due for completion within 12 months
* Minimum of three years post-registration experience of which two years should be at Primary Nurse or equivalent
