New Business Intake Manager A full-service, international law firm is looking for a New Business Intake Manager to join them. The Risk & Compliance team is led by the General Counsel and is a key function within the firm, responsible for providing guidance on all matters related to legal, regulatory, and risk management obligations. This includes overseeing areas such as financial crime compliance, client due diligence (CDD), risk management, conflict resolution, internal investigations, insurance, governance, and data protection, as well as managing external vendor contracts. The New Business Intake function is responsible for ensuring that the firm meets all regulatory requirements when onboarding new clients and matters, managed by the Director of Compliance, and led by the Head of NBI. The function consists of a diverse team, working across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. As an NBI Manager, you will play a pivotal role in managing and mentoring the team to provide a high-quality, tailored service to internal stakeholders, ensuring all compliance obligations are met. Key Responsibilities: Client Due Diligence (CDD) Oversee the CDD process, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and that all checks are performed accurately and promptly. Supervise team members carrying out CDD checks on new and existing clients, and escalate any high-risk or complex matters to senior leadership. Act as a point of contact for internal queries relating to CDD and provide guidance to other business areas. Carry out CDD checks on clients as needed, particularly for high-risk or complex matters. Manage adverse media and sanctions screening processes, ensuring proper escalation of potential matches. Assist with training and development initiatives for the NBI team and other internal departments, including Finance and Client Services. Stay abreast of legal and regulatory developments affecting law firm risk management, and keep the team informed of relevant changes. Ensure the team adheres to all relevant legal and regulatory requirements, including the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Standards and Regulations, and the firm’s internal compliance policies. Maintain an in-depth understanding of financial crime compliance, particularly Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations. Identify and escalate any potential conflicts of interest arising from client engagements. Oversee the conflict-checking process, ensuring that checks are completed accurately and in a timely manner. Assist in the development and implementation of new compliance policies and strategies. Team Management Lead and manage a team of Senior Analysts and Analysts, providing guidance, training, and regular performance reviews. Foster a positive and supportive team culture that aligns with the firm’s values and behaviours. Serve as the first point of contact for any CDD or conflicts-related queries raised by the team. Support team members’ professional growth and development through mentoring and coaching. Ensure efficient workflow distribution and prioritisation of tasks within the team. Promote knowledge sharing and collaboration across the NBI function. Required Skills and Experience At least 3 years’ experience in a law firm or legal environment, with a focus on financial crime compliance, including AML and CDD processes. Proven experience managing teams, with at least 2 years’ experience of successfully driving performance and delivering results. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complex compliance issues. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients, partners, fee earners, and support staff. Ability to train and mentor junior staff, and lead by example in developing a high-performing team. Strong organisational skills, with exceptional attention to detail as well as the ability to manage multiple priorities and work to tight deadlines.
