To achieve and maintain competence in the use of electronic systems associated with the ordering of blood samples To take venous blood and capillary specimens of good quality using aseptic technique and ensuring the minimum of pain and discomfort to the patient. In cases of particular difficulty to refer the patient back to the requesting doctor. To dispose safely of used needles and contaminated waste in the appropriate containers. To ensure that samples are satisfactory for the investigations requested. To sort and transfer specimens to the appropriate laboratory for analysis. To abide by the safety policies of the ward/department To maintain patient confidentiality at all times. To perform any other task relevant to the achievement of the overall objective.
