We are hiring for two Investigations Officers; one on a permanent contract and one on a six month fixed term contract. Please state in your covering letter which position you are applying for.
This post is based in our London office; however, ARB supports a flexible approach to hybrid working in the office and remotely.
Architects play a crucial role in our society. They design the buildings and environments where we live and work. The Architects Registration Board (ARB) is the professional regulator of architects. We maintain a Register to protect the public, so that anyone using an architect’s services, or a building designed by an architect, can be reassured that the design has been developed by an appropriate expert. Where serious concerns are raised about the conduct or competence of someone on our Register, we must take action to protect the public.
Our Professional Standards Department are looking for two proactive and resilient team players to join their team. This dynamic team manages complaints against architects through all stages from initial assessment to public hearings and is responsible for investigating complaints into misuse of the title ‘Architect’. The Professional Standards Department also provides regular advice and guidance to architects and members of the public on issues of professional conduct and competence.
In this unique role as an Investigation Officer, you will independently manage multiple cases of varying complexity, along with drafting clear and concise reports and decisions in relation to conduct and competency matters. This involves arranging, attending, and facilitating physical and virtual Professional Conduct Committee hearings, as well as assisting with the development of professional standards policy, procedures, and guidance. Whilst in this role you will be fully supported by the Investigations Manager and wider team to ensure all work is consistent with the professional standards of conduct and practices.
This role requires someone who can demonstrate skills in handling difficult and sensitive scenarios in a flexible, professional manner, enjoys a fast-paced environment, has meticulous attention to detail, and is a team player with the ability to work on your own initiative and deliver work to deadlines.
Due to the nature of the role, we ask that you clearly demonstrate your experience in professional regulation and casework. Some knowledge of the built environment is desirable but not essential.
How to apply
Please ensure that you review the job description and person specification, and make sure you download the full application pack from the ARB website.
To make your application, you will need to submit the following documents:
1. CV and supporting statement demonstrating your suitability for the role (your supporting statement must be no longer than 1,500 words providing details and demonstrable evidence of any relevant skills and experience you might bring to the role, as identified within the job description and person specification. Please also include why you are interested in this role).
2. Completed conflict of interest form, downloadable as part of the application pack.
The closing date is 19 March at 23:30.
Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
We will contact you once short-listing has been completed to advise you of the outcome of your application.
Interviews will be held online on the 7 and 8 April.
About Us:
ARB is an independent professional regulator, established by Parliament as a statutory body, through the Architects Act, in 1997. We are accountable to government.
The law gives us a number of core functions:
* To ensure only those who are suitably competent are allowed to practise as architects. We do this by approving the architecture qualifications required to join the Register of architects.
* We maintain a publicly available Register of architects so anyone using the services of an architect can be confident that they are suitably qualified and are fit to practise.
* We set the standards of conduct and practice the profession must meet and take action when any architect falls below the required standards of conduct or competence.
* We set requirements for and monitor the continuous professional development that architects must undertake, to provide assurance to the public about the continuing competence of the profession.
* We protect the legally restricted title ‘architect’.
* We want a world in which the built environment inspires those who live and work in it, reflects the needs of society so that people are safe and can live well, and helps to tackle the fundamental challenges our planet faces.
The contribution that regulation can make to this overarching purpose may be small, but we recognise that architects and other professionals in the built environment can achieve their own goals, potential and outcomes only if we are delivering effective regulation.
The benefits of working at ARB include: A flexible working policy. There is an entitlement of 27 days’ holiday per year plus UK recognised Bank Holiday. There are subsequent increases to entitlement to annual holiday according to length of service. A pension scheme with an employer contribution from 8% to 14%, depending on your own contribution. A health cash plan and health insurance and a comprehensive benefits package. An annual pay performance framework that supports pay and career development. Childcare vouchers.
Here at ARB, we are a small and diverse workforce, and we want to create a genuinely inclusive workplace, where we embrace the differences of all our colleagues and celebrate diversity. We love to see applications from underrepresented groups and welcome applications from individuals, regardless of their background.
