We are pleased to offer this exciting opportunity for a part-time 30-hour post to join the team in the Emergency Department, Princess of Wales Hospital as an Emergency Department Assistant.
The applicant should have experience in working within an emergency care environment. This is a rewarding role that offers clinical support to nursing and medical staff in the delivery of patient-focused care. As part of this role, the successful applicant will assist patient flow through the minor injuries area of the department. Applicants should be enthusiastic and motivated in the delivery of high standards of care and in the maintenance of a safe environment.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a large team are essential. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main Duties of the Job
This exciting role includes clinical support to nursing and medical staff and also includes the distinct functions of supporting the navigation of patients through the minor injuries areas of the Emergency Department (ED). It is envisaged that on a daily basis, the post holder will be allocated to one of the roles identified below; however, the post holder will be expected to work flexibly as directed by the nurse in charge of the department.
The main functions of the Emergency Department Assistant role are:
1. The provision of direct care to patients under the supervision of health care professionals, ensuring that high standards are maintained in a safe environment, which promotes equality and sensitivity for all individuals.
2. Working as a member of the ED, collaborating with key individuals and departments to ensure the smooth flow of patients through the Minors area.

Qualifications
* Working at NVQ L2 in Health & Social Care or equivalent experience
* Working at NVQ L3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent experience
Communication
* Key skills in communication with patients from varied populations, multi-disciplinary teams, and personnel from other departments.
* Ability to overcome communication challenges.
Experience
* Has clinical skills in plastering, wound care, cannulation & phlebotomy.

Salary: £24,433 to £26,060 a year per annum pro rata.
