This apprenticeship opportunity will provide valuable work experience in the Corporate Debt Team, meeting the needs of both the organisation and qualification criteria. Under supervision, the apprentice will provide day-to-day support and assistance in basic areas of work undertaken by the team. The apprentice will be released from the workplace to attend college as required and will be expected to undertake all necessary studies to achieve the formal qualification which is part of the Government’s apprenticeship framework.
The Corporate Debt in the Directorate of Resources is responsible for the issue and collection of the council’s sundry debt.
The successful candidate will provide support to a team of finance officers with the opportunity to develop new skills. These will include logging and distributing post, taking meeting minutes, setting up and adjusting accounts, preparing account adjustment paperwork, and using the council’s debt system. You will also be involved with the recovery of debts including talking to debtors, setting arrangements, taking payments, and liaising with departments to resolve queries.
Good communication and IT skills are required along with a desire to provide excellent customer service.
Due to the variety of tasks within the team, the successful candidate will need to be able to prioritise their own workload, work independently, and be part of a team. Accuracy and attention to detail are also extremely important for all tasks that will be undertaken.

Responsibilities:
1. As allocated by your line manager, perform a range of basic administrative and financial duties which include specific tasks related to the formal qualification.
2. Work with colleagues, taking instruction, making notes, and meeting the basic needs of the team.
3. Deal politely with Council employees, businesses, and residents. After training, be able to deliver an acceptable level of customer service at all times.
4. Handle calls made to the service/team, logging the calls and ensuring all the necessary information is gathered from the caller. Deal with basic queries and direct all other calls to the appropriate team member/service.
5. Provide basic advice and information to debtors, by telephone, email, or letter relating to the services or goods invoiced.
6. Undertake general administrative duties including filing, photocopying, etc.
Team Specific Tasks:
Under direct supervision, learn about and work towards undertaking duties related to Corporate Debt invoicing and recovery. Throughout the Apprenticeship programme, assist senior staff in the following duties:
1. Raising invoices for goods and services provided by the Council.
2. Setting arrangements for repayments.
3. Preparing paperwork for account adjustments.
4. The recovery of unpaid invoices using all means of collection available.
Personal Development:
* To undertake a varied programme of work experience, practical and theoretical training leading to a recognised apprenticeship qualification in Customer Services level 2 as part of an apprenticeship programme.
* To actively participate in their own development plan, which will be agreed with the line manager and the assessor from the training provider. To undertake the requirements of the academic element of the apprenticeship (e.g., attendance at college and completion of academic work). A minimum of 20% of the working week will be allocated to this.
