W To support and advise hospital nursing staff, medical staff and other healthcare professionals, enabling them to fulfil their role in caring for patients with Head and neck Cancer whilst also recognising the needs of their families and carers. w To establish a relationship of trust with patients, carers and families. w To demonstrate competence when dealing with complex patients, who require new skills, to live with ongoing illness or disease. w Adhere to Health and Safety Trust legislation and infection control policies. w Communicate effectively and achieve agreement with the patient, carer and family regarding the determined plan of care as agreed by the MDT which can be complex and sensitive. w Consider and evaluate the impact of diagnosis and treatment decisions on the patient. Ensure the patient remains involved and in control over decision making regarding their health / illness if possible and as appropriate.
