Smoking Cessation Advisor - Assertive Engagement
Job Reference: JOB0133
Location: Ilford, London Borough of Redbridge
Salary: £29,124 - £31,364 per annum, including London Weighting where appropriate
Vacancy Type: Fixed Term/Full Time
Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Application Deadline: Sunday, March 16, 2025
Job Summary
Are you interested in working assertively and collaboratively with other agencies to reduce barriers and improve outcomes for vulnerable and minority groups? We know that people and communities are not “hard to reach”, but that services can be. There are many complex reasons why some groups might find it difficult to access help offered through standard pathways, leading to inequalities of access to healthcare and other support.
This role has been created with OHID funding to take smoking cessation advice and interventions out to the community, to settings where people living or experiencing homelessness in Redbridge find it easier, safer, or more helpful to be seen.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced smoking cessation advisor who is able to work flexibly and collaboratively with our other key partnerships and local services, to:
1. Deliver smoking cessation clinics and drop-ins at a range of locations including food banks, day centres, hotels for people seeking asylum, temporary housing, care homes and faith spaces.
2. Support professionals working in these settings to understand how to Make Every Contact Count and provide Very Brief Advice to the people using their services or communities who are using tobacco.
3. Work opportunistically and proactively around people’s existing appointments and engagement with other services to help them to register and set a quit date when they are most motivated, and to collect and verify 4-week quit outcomes within the quit window, reducing numbers lost-to-follow-up.
4. Complete record-keeping on Quit Manager and maintain other records as needed to evaluate outcomes.
5. Support other activities of the team that promote the service and the benefits of quitting smoking.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an expanding service that delivers specialist advice and support and is developing key partnerships to improve the health and wellbeing of Redbridge residents.
This is a full-time position of 37.5 hours per week, on a fixed term basis for 12 months. Our usual hours are Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00 with some occasional evening and weekend work as required on a rota within the team.
Location
The Redbridge Quits Smoking service is based in Ilford, close to the station. A substantial part of this role involves travel to other key locations across the borough of Redbridge.
