OVERVIEW
The FR Canadian Linguist performs quality control tasks and on-demand translation tasks for medical devices and life sciences content, and takes on linguistic lead functions on assigned projects; coordinates the activities of a group of translators for assigned accounts or projects, trains and develops freelancers, and ensures that the work is performed at a satisfactorily high standard within the specified deadlines and quality level; ensures that the Language Process is being followed by the project/account team. The role can be done remotely, but UK based .
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. The following is a non-exhaustive list of responsibilities and areas of ownership for this role:
2. Performing copy-edit tasks on assigned projects or accounts (EN > FRCA)
3. Performing on-demand translation tasks (EN > FRCA)
4. Performing lead support on assigned projects or accounts
5. Managing and maintaining the language materials (including glossaries, Style Guides, work instruction) up to the quality standards and up to date as required by the account or project
6. Managing project-related queries
7. Ensuring good interaction among team members and resolving questions on terminology and language matters
8. Testing and qualifying new freelancers and vendors as required
9. Developing and training of internal linguists/new and existing freelancers according to the accounts’ and Welocalize’s needs
10. Interacting with clients on linguistic matters as required
11. Participating in the development of new and improved working processes
12. Meet or exceed the productivity KPI
13. Achieving the goals set by the Squad Lead
REQUIREMENTS
14. Education :
15. University degree in Translation/Applied Languages or equivalent combination of education and experience;
16. Experience
17. 3+ years of relevant experience in the translation and localization industry.
18. Native fluency in French Canadian
19. Previous experience in translating medical devices and life sciences content
20. Fluency in English, both written and spoken
21. Thorough understanding of the localization process
22. Good user experience of standard software, such as Windows and Office applications
23. Good user experience of standard CAT tools, XTM, SDL Studio, and issue tracking and query management tools, JIRA
24. Other relevant skills:
25. Ability to learn new localization tools and applications quickly
26. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
27. Excellent knowledge of terminology used in two or more subject matters
28. Ability to work with tight deadlines
29. Ability to give clear, concise and constructive feedback
30. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, linguists
31. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
