Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced band 5 nurse to join our dedicated Oncology and Haematology Day Unit based at the Beacon Centre, Musgrove Park Hospital. We are a nurse lead unit with excellent patient feedback, providing specialist care to Oncology and Haematology patients undergoing systemic anti-cancer treatments SACT. We are looking for a highly motivated and passionate individual to complement our team to help drive forward our services. The unit has 25 chairs, a phlebotomy clinic and outpatient rooms for clinics. We operate 5 days a week Monday to Friday, some bank holidays, 08:30-18:00 and offer professional development once competent in SACT administration for more than 12 months, candidates can work towards career progression to band 6 after review with the unit manager. You will require good communication skills, a teamwork approach and be able provide a high standard of nursing care with the support of your team. This advert is open to registered nurses. Informal visits/chats always welcome - contact us today to discuss the position in more detail or organise for you to come and visit Main duties of the job The post holder will be responsible for administering SACT and supportive treatments, once chemotherapy competent you will be able assess patients care needs and conduct toxicity assessments to a high standard of specialist nursing care to all patients within the Oncology/Haematology Day Unit. They will also be able to work independently and autonomously without direct supervision, accountable for own professional actions once fully competent in the delivery of SACT. To provide and maintain a high standard of evidence based, patient centred care. To demonstrate good interpersonal skills and to develop practical skills required within the speciality, whist reflecting the philosophy of care. To deliver patient care on a daily basis, using the systems in place in the department for a multi-disciplinary approach to patient-centred care delivery, which builds on the philosophy of greater involvement of patients and their relatives/carers by using the Trusts patient and public involvement strategy. Experienced Band 5 post holders will also provide effective clinical and managerial leadership of the department, in the absence of the senior members of the team, which empowers staff to deliver patient centred, evidence based nursing care.
