My name is Lina and I am the Clinical Trials Pharmacy Technician Team Manager for the Clinical Trials team in Oxford.
I am extremely privileged to manage and support our fantastic technical team of Technicians, Practitioners, Assistants, and Apprentices as we provide support services to our clinical trial research teams on all of our trust sites throughout Oxfordshire.
The Clinical Trials Pharmacy consists of Pharmacists, Technicians, Practitioners, Assistants, and Apprentices. We receive support from rotational staff such as student technicians and pharmacists. We work closely with research teams across the trust and external representatives.

Main duties of the job
Newly/recently qualified Pharmacy Technicians, or existing Pharmacy Technicians:
As a Clinical Trials Pharmacy Technician in our team, you will have an extremely varied role - you will be involved in maintaining the supply chain of Clinical Trial medications to research nurses who deliver treatment to patients, maintaining financial records, completing drug accountability activities, closing down and archiving completed studies, as well as facilitating meetings from sponsors.
A successful candidate should possess a relevant Pharmacy Technician qualification and registration with GPHC.

Job responsibilities
Core Role as a Clinical Trials Pharmacy Technician:
1. To obtain and maintain Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training and apply principles of GCP in the management of clinical trials.
2. To communicate with Investigators, Research Nurses, Trust R&D, Sponsors, Clinical Research Associates, and Pharmacy staff during the set-up and running of a clinical trial.
3. To ensure clinical trial protocols and SOPs are followed during dispensing of clinical trial investigational medicinal products and other drugs included in the protocol.
4. To order and receive clinical trial drugs, process receipt paperwork, and acknowledge receipt on IVRS (Electronic Medication Supply) systems.
5. To check stock levels and expiry dates of clinical trial drugs and keep balance logs up to date.
6. To assist with the packing down and re-labelling of clinical trial drugs if required.
7. To assist with the preparation for monitoring meetings, audits, and inspections.
8. To maintain Clinical Trial files ensuring items can easily be located and are presentable.
9. To process returned clinical trial drugs and ensure the paperwork is kept in order.
10. To participate in the statutory temperature monitoring of clinical trial stocks.
11. To assist with the destruction of clinical trial medication.
12. To assist with the closedown and archiving of clinical trial files.
13. To represent the Clinical Trials Team to update the dispensary staff at meetings.
14. To liaise with Research Nurses to update them on trial progress and stock levels.
15. To assist in the collection of data as requested by the Senior Clinical Trial Technician or Clinical Trial Pharmacists.
16. To assist in maintaining financial records, including the generation of invoices and checking payments.
17. To assist with general administration such as organizing set up meetings and be a point of contact within the Clinical Trials Pharmacy Team.
18. To maintain clinical trial filing systems and drug accountability documentation for clinical trials.
19. To use the computer system and other information technology in all areas of Pharmacy.
Additionally, you would be involved in supporting Clinical Trial Aseptic Unit:
1. To participate in the day-to-day running of the CTASU in line with the rota system.
2. To participate in safe systems of work and documentation of these.
3. To undertake safe and accurate preparation of a wide range of aseptic products on a daily basis, including cytotoxics, epidurals, antibiotics, injectables, novel agents, and monoclonal antibodies.
4. To maintain personal expertise, skills, and necessary knowledge of the technical aspects of aseptic and non-aseptic dispensing.
5. To ensure products are prepared according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
6. To facilitate the quality assurance of products and notify the Senior Aseptic Technician of any incidents and procedural deficiencies.
7. To be responsible for ensuring finished products are packed prior to distribution for prompt and safe delivery.
8. To ensure finished products are transported in the appropriate environment considering physical & legal requirements.
9. To participate in the clean room/isolator cleaning rota.
10. To assist in environmental and physical monitoring of the CTASU.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services, BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences, or equivalent and registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
Experience
* Ability to work at an isolator fully gloved and gowned.
* Previous NHS experience.
* Clinical Trials experience.
