Role: Field Service Engineer Salary: £40,000 Van Benefits PAckage Location: Within 1.5 hour of Telford The Role: We seek a multi-skilled CNC machine tool service engineer, NC Engineer, for installing new and used multi-axis and 5-Axis CNC machines, along with servicing, fault-finding and repairing, retrofitting, refurbishing, and upgrading a wide variety of specialised machines currently installed. The right candidate needs to be multi-skilled, (60% electronics, 40% mechanics,) and employ their knowledge and skills to undertake all service requirements. The person must be equally capable of working alone, and as a valued member of the team. Contact with colleagues (engineers, administration, and management) is expected daily, and often remotely, electronically and via telephone. Key skills Fault-finding on a wide variety of bespoke equipment, Diagnosing and repairing CNC machines at the customers’ premises throughout the UK and Ireland. A familiarity with Siemens 840D (and BWO) is helpful, but training will be provided, especially for those with experience of other controllers. (Candidates with experience with other leading controllers, Fanuc, Heidenhain, etc., are welcome.) Some manual programming and machine setting will be required, including “Teach-In programming” for special tool paths. Experience setting CNC controlled machines is preferred. The Role: Report to Service Manager. Undertake preventative maintenance on CNC machine tools, CNC Routers, (in accordance with Maka machine specific checklists.) Tasks include cleaning, replacing filters, cleaning guideways, grease, belts and replacing other “consumables”, batteries, bearings, etc. Repair and rebuild ancillary items, including motors, gears, drives, guides, guarding & swarf/dust chutes. Install and test new and used CNC machines and undertake relocations (using skates and hydraulic jacks provided), (and work with professional machine movers with specialised lifting equipment). Install and fit new and used machine enclosures, acoustic cabins and powered doors. Design, make and fit additional guards, interlocks, hoods, chutes, if required. Participate in Hotline support and Emergency Call-out support as required. Undertake fault diagnosis and rectify major and minor faults. Provide customer guidance with regards best working practices, instruct how best to look after their MAKA, “Health-Check” machines, and provide sound advice generally. Check, adjust and reset CNC and PLC parameters for spindle and cutting tool offsets, etc. Provide clear reports and instructions for ordering parts or further services. Calibrate spindles, 3, 4 and 5-axis heads (“robot heads”), measure, test & set according to requirements. Align and level large-scale heavy-duty, precision CNC machine tools, measuring geometry, adjusting, and setting according to requirements. (eg., manually measuring and adjusting levels, squareness etc.) Other relevant duties consistent with the general requirements of the MAKA Service department as directed by line management. Experience- Essential: Understand, follow, and interpret mechanical and electrical, pneumatic, and wiring diagrams. Understand and adhere to Electronic and Electrical wiring and regulations. Skilled in using hand tools, power tools and precision measuring tools (dials, levels & gauges.). Experience in fitting, soldering, and welding processes to undertake repairs on site, and create parts that may be required to repair machinery. Be computer literate and competent using MS Office / 365 (Word, Excel and Outlook) Desired: Fault finding diagnosis, analysis and repair of CNC machine faults (electrical and mechanical) Replace (mainly exchanging) components such as: power and CNC cards, high-frequency 3-phase and low voltage single phase circuits; CNC drive cards; Inverters; Bearings; Guideways; Ball screws; Racks; Gear boxes; Servo motors; Encoders; Cables, connectors and wiring looms; Safety circuits; Lighting circuits; milling, routing and drilling spindles; vacuum pumps and valves; Air-Mist applicators; Pneumatic drills, Pneumatic clamps, Grease pumps; and associated valves, sensors, cables, connectors and ducting. Replace/realign/recalibrate heavy-duty electro-spindles (Size 6 kw to 26 kw, 600x150mm, 35-70 kgs Knowledge and experience of Machine tool and heavy-duty CNC machine construction Experience setting-up CNC machine to operate in production, to precise requirements Capable of machine setting to high standards of precision Using dial gauges, precision levels and other alignment and measuring devices Training customers’ operators, and maintenance staff on all aspects of the CNC machine HSK F63 & E63, HSK E40 and ISO/SK40 & ISO30 tool clamping systems. measuring clamping forces for the above spindles setting and aligning tool magazines aligning and calibrating 5-axis heads aligning and setting 3 axis linear drives (moving beams, moving tables, moving gantry etc) Precision setting to position 0.01 mm, and understanding of static and dynamic accuracy Ball-bar testing of 3-axis and 5-axis heads spindles experience or awareness of Laser calibration experience or awareness of Touch-Probes, 3D probes (eg., Renishaw RMP60 or 600) Enclosure assembly, and fitting with windows, lighting, powered doors, and safety circuits Benefits: Full-time Salary depending on experience, plus overtime.
