JOB DESCRIPTION
M-EC is a privately-owned engineering and environmental multi-disciplinary consultancy operating nationally from two offices. We serve both private and public sector clients in sectors including residential, commercial, industrial, retail, leisure, education, and healthcare.
We operate on a national basis with offices in Birmingham, Brighton, and Leicester. We are growing our existing team based at our headquarters in Leicestershire.
We are seeking a Structural Technician/Senior Structural Technician to become an integral part of our Structures team situated at our thriving Leicestershire office.

REQUIREMENTS
Key role responsibilities:
1. Working within regional team on numerous residential, commercial, and public sector related projects.
2. Liaison and co-operative working with team members, senior staff, and colleagues in other disciplines.
3. Potential to progress to Senior Technician, subject to meeting targets, goals and KPIs.
4. Outputs include reports, design models, drawings, calculations, and correspondence.
5. Work involves significant use of specialist design software and CAD.
6. Design and detailing of foundation systems for residential and commercial structures including traditional strip footings, piled and raft designs.
7. Super-structure detailing in reinforced concrete, steel, and timber.
8. Working to company standards including administration, client liaison and quality.
9. Assisting senior staff at meetings with clients, team, other disciplines, and relevant third-parties.
10. Submissions of designs for third party approvals which require pro-active communication with clients, authorities, and other agencies to ensure projects are completed to deadlines and budgets.
11. Working within all offices as and when required, working additional hours if necessary to deliver all responsibilities and to attend meetings/events.
Key skills, experience and attributes required:
1. Active involvement in undertaking structural engineering, including design models, drawings, calculations, contract documents, reinforcement schedules, bills of quantities, reports, and correspondence.
2. Maintaining and developing department standards, systems, and procedures.
3. Assist senior staff to maintain and grow existing client relationships, developing new opportunities and diversifying the range of commissions.
4. Compliance with Designer’s responsibilities under the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015. Maintain valid CSCS Card. Working understanding of site/construction safety.
5. Regular communication both internally and externally, obtaining feedback on performance from clients, agreeing fee proposals and timescales.
6. Liaise fully with clients, other staff members and statutory bodies including Planning Authorities, Building Control, NHBC, Highway Authorities, Environment Agency, etc to ensure efficient progress with commissions.
7. Ensure delivery of quality, accurate and efficient work which has undergone rigorous checking procedures throughout the whole process.
8. Site visits for inspections or investigation work; attendance at meetings with team, clients, and suppliers. Occasional requirement to attend events and meetings outside of normal office hours.
9. Follow a continued professional development/programme of training and achieve a minimum of 12 days continuing professional development (CPD) per year.
10. Other duties as may occasionally be required to support the needs of the business.
11. Minimum 2 years relevant experience of structural design for commercial, public sector, industrial and residential schemes, and business development.
12. Student member of The Institution of Civil Engineers and/or Institution of Structural Engineers and working towards Technician membership grade.
13. Basic knowledge of structural design standards including British Standards and Eurocodes.
14. Basic knowledge of Building Control, NHBC and Highway Authority submission and approval processes.
15. Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and Revit software.
16. Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office.
17. Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team. This will also involve working with various other disciplines and offices within M-EC and external organisations.
18. Self-motivated individual with desire to not only work within the company but also have ambition to help it grow and develop. Mentoring/supervision of trainee staff to develop their knowledge and skills.
19. Hold full clean driving licence and have own private car with insurance for business use.
