We work on applied research projects in the physical sciences to meet the current and future challenges of the industry. SLB Cambridge Research is a distinctive marquee-like structure dominating the High Cross site on the western outskirts of Cambridge, England. This spectacular building was completed in 1985 and the smaller second phase was opened in 1992. It has recently been classified as a Grade II listed building. Altogether, there are more than 930 m2; of laboratory space and offices for more than 100 scientists, technicians and domain experts. Job Summary: We are seeking a creative self-motivated Research Scientist to develop experiments for multiphase flow dynamics. The initial focus will be on recommissioning existing multiphase flow loops and will expand to improve design and automate the systems and lead the experiments. The job will require experience in mechanical design, building, and commissioning of flow loops and knowledge of Python to maintain and upgrade the flow loop control system and automate experiments. The candidate will also need to work constructively and effectively in a multidisciplinary team with business and engineering teams to ensure their solutions have a significant impact. They will also present their work internally and externally. Responsibilities: - Work in executing multiphase fluid flow experiments (gas, liquid, and solid phases) to contribute to our research using the state-of-the-art flow loops in SCR - Work with modellers and production domain experts to build and validate models and concepts - Engage and collaborate with SLB technical community - Ability to develop novel solutions to research and engineering problems, and articulate them to the technology team and management - Publish scientific papers, write patent applications and attend conferences Qualifications: - PhD in Fluid mechanics or a related field - Expertise in experimental multiphase fluid dynamics (gas, liquid, and solid phases) experimentally, numerically, and empirically - Experience in mechanical design, building, and commissioning of flow loops, particularly handling multiphase flows - Knowledge of Python to maintain and upgrade the flow loop control system and automate experiments - Experience in data acquisition, signal processing, and data interpretation including data science approaches is highly desirable. - Experience in advanced instrumentation for multiphase flow measurements including laser-optical (PLIF, PIV), electrical, ultrasonic, and nuclear techniques is desirable - CFD modelling of multiphase flows (Ansys, OpenFoam, COMSOL) is desirable - Relevant publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals are desirable - Understanding of Production Systems is desirable SLB is an equal employment opportunity employer.
