We are currently looking for a talented Principal Structural Engineer to join our client's Edinburgh office, driven by a strong pipeline of upcoming projects. This is an exciting opportunity to work with one of the UK's top private engineering consultancies, delivering a wide variety of projects across sectors including commercial, retail, residential, and industrial.
Main Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee a range of development projects, from smaller-scale schemes to larger, more complex ventures.
- Conduct site appraisals, feasibility assessments, and pre-planning evaluations for building structures and their related infrastructure.
- Review and manage the reports, designs, and drawings produced by the team, ensuring they align with high-quality standards, design regulations, industry best practices, contractual requirements, and client expectations.
- Maintain communication with clients, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
- Attend design and site meetings, and carry out site inspections where needed.
- Take charge of project management, including team leadership, budget control, and ensuring deadlines are met.
- Contribute to business development by engaging with clients, networking, and preparing bids and proposals.
- Ensure that all work complies with Health and Safety legislation and Quality Management processes.
- Collaborate with other internal teams and external consultants to ensure seamless project delivery.
- Offer technical leadership, providing guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
Qualifications & Experience:
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Structural Engineering.
- Chartered status (MICE or MIStructE) with 3-5 years' post-charter experience, or a total of 15 years' experience since graduation.
- SER Certifier status is preferred, though full support and training will be provided for progression to Certifier status if necessary.
- A strong understanding of building structures and infrastructure design, particularly at the concept, feasibility, and preliminary design stages.
- A sound knowledge of relevant policies and design standards (e.g., Planning, Building Warrant).
- Proven experience in designing building structures with a solid understanding of Scottish Technical Standards, along with the ability to manage multiple projects while meeting tight deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A proactive and adaptable attitude when working within a collaborative team environment.
- A full, clean driving licence.
