The City of Worcester seeks qualified applicants for a Youth Worker II for the Division of Youth Opportunities (DYO) within the Department of Health and Human Services. The Youth Worker II will implement and lead activities for athletic, academic, and art programming for the youth participants at the Recreation Worcester summer sites. Under the direction of the Site Coordinator and Assistant Site Coordinator, the position will execute programming at the Recreation Worcester sites and communicate policy and procedures to participants, while ensuring to provide a safe, clean, and fun environment.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS :
1. Provide consistent supervision of the youth to ensure their safety, development, and well-being.
2. Use redirection and behavior management intervention.
3. Coordinate daily activities and assist the youth participants to perform daily activities.
4. Serve as a positive role model for youth ages 7-13 regarding age-appropriate behavior and social skills.
5. Provide direct one-on-one support to youth participants.
6. Set up and ensure recreation equipment is secure and stored properly.
7. Participate in staff training.
SECONDARY ELEMENTS :
1. Ensure site cleanliness by guiding youth participants through cleanup tasks.
2. Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
1. Ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse populations.
2. Ability to be a team player and problem solver.
3. Ability to work with youth ages 7-13 of diverse backgrounds.
4. Ability to multitask.
5. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
6. Ability to provide constructive feedback to youth participants.
7. Ability to receive constructive feedback from supervisor.
8. Ability to build relationships and networking skills with students, colleagues, and community members.
9. Ability to work with youth with special educational or emotional needs.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :
1. At least 15 years of age or older, must have a valid work permit if under 18 years of age.
2. Must pass a criminal background check (CORI & SORI).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
1. One (1) year of experience facilitating out-of-school activities and programming.
2. Two (2) years of experience with staff or program participant supervision.
3. Two (2) years of administrative experience.
4. Worcester Resident.
5. Bilingual candidate.
SALARY : $16.25 hourly, full-time, temporary, non-benefitted.
