Position: 1-1 Teaching Assistant
Location: Wakefield Area (Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2)
Reports to: Classroom Teacher, SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator)
Role
- We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated 1-1 Teaching Assistant to provide tailored support to a primary school pupil with specific learning needs.
- The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the child's academic, social, and emotional development, ensuring they can fully participate in lessons and school activities.
- This role requires a nurturing approach, strong communication skills, and the ability to adapt to the pupil's individual needs.
Responsibilities:
Individual Support
- Provide focused, one-to-one support to the assigned pupil during lessons and school activities.
- Implement strategies and interventions outlined in the child's Individual Education Plan (IEP) or Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP).
- Adapt classroom materials and resources to meet the pupil's specific learning requirements.
- Offer support with physical needs, including mobility and personal care, where necessary.
Learning Assistance
- Reinforce lesson objectives and activities to aid understanding and engagement.
- Break tasks into manageable steps, providing prompts to encourage independent work.
- Assist in developing the pupil's language, literacy, numeracy, and social skills through one-to-one or small group work as appropriate.
Behavioural and Emotional Support
- Use positive behavior management strategies to promote the pupil's emotional and social well-being.
- Implement behavior plans to support positive interactions and self-regulation.
- Provide a safe, supportive environment where the pupil feels valued and understood.
Collaboration and Communication
- Liaise with the classroom teacher, SENCO, and other staff to ensure consistent support for the pupil.
- Provide regular feedback on the pupil's progress, noting achievements and areas for improvement.
- Communicate regularly with parents or guardians to keep them informed of the pupil's progress and challenges.
Documentation and Monitoring
- Maintain accurate records of the pupil's progress, attendance, and any incidents.
- Monitor the effectiveness of support strategies and make adjustments as necessary, in collaboration with the SENCO and teaching staff.
Professional Development
- Participate in relevant training to enhance your skills and knowledge in supporting the pupil.
- Attend staff meetings and professional development sessions related to SEN support.

Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
- Experience working with children in a primary school setting is preferred.
- Knowledge and experience of supporting children with special educational needs (SEN) is desirable.
- Training in behavior management or experience delivering specific learning programs is an advantage.

This is a temporary position, with the possibility of becoming permanent depending on future needs. All pay rates quoted will include 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
