SENDIASS Helpline Advisor (7863) | Two year fixed term contract | 30 hours per week | £25,584 to £27,269 per annum pro rata | (Grade E) | County Hall, Norwich
Norfolk SENDIASS provides confidential and impartial information, advice and support about special educational needs & disabilities (SEND) for children, young people, parents and carers, to empower them to play an active and informed role in issues relating to their education and care.
The service plays a crucial and impartial role within the Local Authority in promoting the active participation of children and young people who have SEND and their parents/carers in issues around SEN and disability. SENDIASS works with parents/carers, children and young people as well as education settings, keeping channels of communication open, and ensuring SEN support is in place.
To increase capacity with Norfolk SENDIASS we are looking to employ another part time Helpline Advisor. This is an exciting time to join the team and part of wider changes within SENDIAS Service to ensure that more parent/carers, children and young people are informed and their voices heard.
Are you passionate about working with parents/carers, enabling them to self-advocate on matters relating to SEN and Disability?
Would you be able to explain complex SEND legislation to enable parents to be informed of their rights in relation to their child/young persons SEND?
Are you a skilful communicator, capable of drawing out positive ways forward, maintaining clear and professional boundaries and managing realistic expectations?
If so, we would like to hear from you.
The focus of the role is speaking directly with parents/carers and young people through our helpline. You will be a source of information and expertise on SEND legislation for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities, on navigating SEND processes and on communicating and working effectively with parents, children and young people as equal partners.
In this role, you will work to empower and advise parent/carers to help secure positive outcomes for families.
The role involves home-based and office work necessary to maintain the significant amount of data inputting/record keeping and telephone/online work that is required for the role. You will also need to travel to venues not accessible on public transport routes as and when necessary.
If you are organised, resilient and empathic, with excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, then we would like to hear from you.
