Job description We have an exciting opportunity available for an Occupational Health & Safety Advisor based at the DM Gosport site, where our multi-skilled teams receive, store, maintain, issue complex weapons (missiles and torpedoes), general munitions and their supporting non-explosive systems, spares and materiel in support of UK Armed Forces worldwide. As a top tier Major Accident Control Regulation (MACR) site, DM Gosport has a number of special to type explosives processing facilities and a large number of explosives store houses operating under strict Safe Systems of Work including safe storage, handling and processing regimes to ensure the associated explosives, chemical and fuel hazards and risks are managed and mitigated. As a safety professional working on site, you will find the role varied with a plethora of safety activities to both challenge and provide development opportunities, which would be fully supported by the business. The role requires awareness and advice to the Head of Establishment and other departments on site of current Occupational, Fire and Health & Safety legislation. You will act as the focal point for all fire safety related matters and specifically act as the competent advisor for site fire safety as well as be responsible for the implementation, maintenance and upkeep of the internal emergency plan. Please note that this role is based fully on-site with the 37 hours being covered over 4.5 days meaning Friday’s will be a half day. Part time working requests will be considered if they can be combined to make a 1 FTE. You will also benefit from free on-site parking and a gym with membership available. What you’ll be doing Responsibility to act as a site focal point for fire safety management, major accident control and radiation safety Conducts reviews, audits and supports assurance activities to ensure due diligence against fire risk assessments and internal emergency plans. Support accident incident reporting, conduct investigations and learning from experience Manage enquiries and act as focal point on fire safety matters, providing advice to stakeholders across the business. Assist in embedding compliance of OHS legislation and regulations across DE&S including reviewing safety critical documentation while promoting a positive safety culture Provide metrics for performance reporting (KPIs and BPIs) and manage dashboard reporting and risk registers. Person specification To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria : NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent level 3 qualification OR Relevant work experience in a similar role If NEBOSH not held, undertake within 1st 6 months of employment Professional membership: Tech IOSH to be held or gained during employment.
